Emmerdale fans are convinced Robert Sugden is returning to the village after his estranged husband, Aaron Dingle, got engaged.

During Tuesday’s trip to the village (March 18), John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) suggested he and his boyfriend Aaron (Danny Miller) throw an engagement party for Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) and Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson).

As the locals gathered at The Woolpack for the celebration, another shock proposal came. John turned to Aaron and said, “I was wondering if… If we should make it official, get married,” which Aaron accepted.

Mandy (Lisa Riley) was ecstatic for the couple and immediately announced the news to the Dingle family, but Chas wasn’t so sure her son Aaron was making the right decision.

John then overheard that Chas had her doubts about him and Aaron, which put quite the dampener on the special occasion.

Meanwhile, Sam Dingle (James Hooton) joked: “Loves marrying a Sugden, does our Aaron”, before Vinny (Bradley Johnson) also offered his congratulations.

John arrived in the village in August 2024 and was revealed to be the half-brother of Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) and Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley), due to their shared father.

But viewers have become increasingly suspicious of John and are convinced he is hiding his true identity.

Emmerdale fans now think Robert Sugden, played by Ryan Hawley, could be making a comeback to stop Aaron’s wedding to John.

As fans of the ITV soap will know, Robert is serving a prison sentence for manslaughter after he assaulted Lee Posner (Kris Mochrie) in retaliation for the rape of his sister Victoria, and the altercation resulted in Lee’s death.

Robert and Aaron attempted to evade the police but eventually, Robert chose to turn himself in, leading to their separation. Robert hasn’t been seen since November 2019, but fans think he is returning to crash the wedding.

Taking to X, one fan demanded: “I want Robert to turn up at the wedding of Aaron and John #Emmerdale.”

A second pointed out: “So if Aaron marries John he will be Aaron Sugden- Sugden. He will be marrying his husband’s half brother. Great time for Robert to return now @EmmerdaleFarmer.”

A third urged: “#Emmerdale Ryan Hawley ( Robert) please come back!!!”, while another asked: “Roberts gonna turn up on their wedding day isn’t he?.”

“Are we going to get a ‘STOP THE WEDDING!’ by one Robert Jacob Sugden, stating his objection is he’s loves Aaron and actually he’s ‘still married to me’ backed up by Chas or Vic who have called him on a burner phone they had from day one of Roberts sentence”, predicted one viewer.
