Emmerdale‘s John Sugden faces yet another crisis in tonight’s episode as Mackenzie Boyd goes digging into his past.
John’s run of bad luck continues as his old army friend Connor continues to hang around the village.
Connor heads to The Hide as he hopes to run into John’s sister Victoria again.
Victoria isn’t working but Connor ends up crossing paths with Mackenzie, who quickly uncovers his past connection to John.
Trouble brews when Mackenzie mentions John’s upcoming stag night and wedding, encouraging Connor to share all of John’s deepest and darkest secrets so there’s plenty of material to mock him with.
Much like with Victoria, this leads to Mackenzie discovering that John has been actively lying to everyone about his past – in particular where his ex-lover Aidan Moore is concerned.
While Victoria has kept quiet about John’s deception, Mackenzie’s loyalty to his best friend Aaron Dingle is sure to mean that he’s less understanding.
How will Mackenzie react to his unsettling discoveries? And with John so dangerous, is Mackenzie painting a target on his back?
Fans can see exactly how the drama plays out when the episode airs tonight at 7.30pm on ITV1, while it’s also streaming now on ITVX.
Oliver Farnworth, who plays John, recently spoke about the possibility of his character’s dark secrets being exposed.
The ITV soap recently confirmed that John has a “hero complex”, so he’s been deliberately endangering the villagers to enjoy the glory of bringing them back from the brink.
His shocking tactics had tragic consequences in the case of Nate Robinson, who suffered a fatal reaction after John needlessly injected him with drugs. John then panicked and concealed Nate’s body.
“There’s lots of big stuff coming up. I guess with the web that John’s woven for himself in the back of his mind, he’s anticipating people to start being suspicious, secrets to come out and people to start finding things out,” Oliver said.
“He’s probably got a few set pieces prepared in his mind for dealing with all of this, but really what he’s had to do so far is just think on his feet and adapt to situations around him. I’m sure this will all change soon.
“The jeopardy at stake for him now is that he’s got his whole life in Emmerdale Village. He’s got the love of his life, Aaron, he’s got a family that he never had. He does not want to lose all that, under any circumstances. There’s going to be a few battles ahead, I think.”
