Why did Monica Raymund leave Chicago Fire?

Monica Raymund, who portrayed Gabby Dawson on Chicago Fire for six seasons, decided to leave the show after the sixth season. In an interview with the Chicago Tribute Raymund revealed that the decision stemmed from her desire to explore new opportunities. While her contract was coming to an end, Raymund felt it was the perfect moment to move on and challenge herself with different roles.

What happened to Gabby Dawson in the Chicago Fire?

The writers created a touching goodbye for Gabby in the season 6 finale after Raymund decided to leave. The episode starts with Chief Hatcher offering Gabby an exciting new job. This position would take her away from Chicago to lead a rescue team in Puerto Rico. However, Gabby’s personal life was chaotic. Her struggles with pregnancy, especially after her miscarriage, had put a strain on her marriage with Matt.

While Gabby wanted to try for another child, her doctor warned her about the risks involved. Matt, however, wanted to adopt, which caused more distance between them. By the time the job offer came, their relationship had grown quite hard. In the end, despite her doubts, Gabby took the job, closing her chapter on Chicago Fire. This bittersweet ending left many fans feeling sad and emotional, and finally, they bid their farewell to Gabby Dawson.
