NBC’s Chicago Fire may return for Season 12, but some of the show’s main characters
and actors won’t be participating. Coming from the mind of Dick Wolf, who was also behind
the creation of other Chicago TV shows as well as the Law & Order series, Chicago Fire
follows a group of firefighters in the Windy City. Season 12 officially premiered on NBC on Wednesday, January 18, and new episodes are expected to air every Wednesday. For fans who can’t watch on NBC, new episodes of the show will air every Thursday on Peacock, one day after their release on NBC. Every major character leaves the Chicago Fire Chicago Fire includes a large group of characters, some new and others who have appeared since Season 1. But with some major roster changes, here are the main characters and their respective actors who won’t be joining the series going forward: Alberto Rosende’s Blake Gallo was first introduced to fans in Season 8 of Chicago Fire as a firefighter assigned to Truck 81 at Firehouse 51. Despite being a main cast member on Chicago Fire, Rosende officially left the show after the first episode of Season 12 titled “Barely Gone”.
That episode confirmed that Blake would be moving to Detroit, Michigan to stay with his aunt, and it also revealed that he wanted to continue working as a firefighter after moving there. As Deadline shared, Rosende looked back on his Chicago Fire tenure with a post on his Instagram Story. The actor said that leaving “wasn’t easy” and that his time on the show “made [him] proud:” “When I decided to end my time with ‘Chicago,’ it wasn’t easy. The people I’ve met are truly special, the friendships I’ve made will last a lifetime, and the story I’m about to tell is one of in those stories.” makes me very proud. Can’t wait to see what else is in store and I wish everyone the best for the rest of the season.” Like Rosende, Kara Killmer also officially left Chicago Fire in the first episode of Season 12. Her character, Sylvie Brett, is a paramedic assigned to Ambulance 61. Killmer first joined the cast of Chicago Fire in Season 3, meaning she’s one of the longest running cast members.
Killmer also took to Instagram to thank the Chicago fire department, as well as the city of Chicago itself. She called the real-life members of the Chicago Fire Department “some of the best firefighters in the country,” and revealed that she is having a “love affair” with the city: “These were the first photos I took or tagged when I first came to ‘Chicago’. Rising through the ranks of Squad 1 was my first exposure to CFD—some of the best firefighters in the country! The view from my first apartment was absolutely stunning and the beginning of a love affair with the beautiful city of Chicago!” Killmer’s character left the series in Season 12 after she accepted a marriage proposal from Matthew Casey. However, it’s important to note that Killmer could appear in at least one more episode. In an interview with Variety, co-executive producer Andrea Newman revealed that her exit will be like a “journey” and will span “a chunk of this season:” “I will say we have a shortened season and she’s in for part of it. She has to go on a journey of her own before we let her go.”
Jesse Spencer hasn’t appeared regularly on Chicago Fire since Season 9 but has appeared sporadically in both Seasons 10 and 11. Spencer’s character, Matthew Casey, was a captain in the Chicago Fire Department before moving to Portland and becoming a captain there. The Season 12 premiere did not feature Spencer, but it was revealed that his character proposed to Kara Killmer’s Sylvie Brett and the two would move to Portland together. However, co-executive producer Andrea Newman told Variety in the same interview mentioned above that the actor will appear in at least one Season 12 episode: “Jesse Spencer is back – our beloved Matt Casey. We couldn’t live without him. He truly is the best.” While Spencer hasn’t appeared regularly in the past few seasons, Season 12 will likely be his final foray as part of the Chicago Fire cast. Julia Brett (actor unknown) is the adopted daughter of Chicago Fire’s Sylvie Brett, and will no longer be on the show after Sylvie officially moves to Oregon to be with her fiance, Matthew. Julia was just a baby, but she appeared in three episodes of Season 11 and was part of an important storyline involving Sylvie. Fans will likely see Julia at least one more time in the future
