in the world,” Fox president Michael Thorn said at the time.

That trio also created the original series, which premiered in 2018 and was set in Los Angeles.

The Austin-based spinoff, starring Rob Lowe and Gina Torres, aired in 2020. “Sadly, we all loved Lone Star, but the financing just wasn’t feasible,” Murphy said in an interview. “It’s a Disney company that used to be on Fox and it was never going to work. And we’ve had that for such a long time. So now we’re launching a new show in a new city that I can’t name, but it’s exciting. And 9-1-1 has moved to ABC and suddenly it’s, I think, the biggest show on Thursday night.”

He added, “They’re obviously interested in that, so we’re going to give them another show that I really like.”

Deadline reports that Las Vegas could be the location for the latest iteration of 9-1-1.

Murphy and Minear are working on the show, which is expected to premiere next year.
