Virgin River: what to expect from season 6?

Although part 2 of the fifth season of “Virgin River” premiered just a few days ago,

fans are already looking forward to the next installment. While there’s still no certainty about Season 6, there are a few things we do know.

Number of regular episodes

Since its debut in 2019, “Virgin River” has been a huge hit on Netflix under the streaming service’s generic programming model. Like many other series, it has ten episodes. This model is maintained for seasons 2 and 3. But in season 4, “Virgin River” has two more episodes. The situation is a little different with the current fifth season, which has ten regular episodes and two Christmas specials.

However, in season 6, the showrunners intend to bring “Virgin River” back to its roots, with just ten episodes.

While the Christmas specials are an interesting innovation that has proven successful — both episodes have the highest ratings on IMDb this season — the creators of “Virgin River” don’t plan to use that idea again. For this reason, there will be no specials in season 6.

Due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike, season 6 wasn’t even scripted, much less filmed. As such, the series’ writers will have to get creative with the storytelling, especially with the time jump imminent. After all, the Christmas episodes wouldn’t be as special if another season started with a festive episode. As for the details, it’s unclear how much time will pass between seasons.

Filming Could Start in Spring

As the writers are still writing the script for “Virgin River” Season 6, it is a little early to think about filming. Additionally, as the series is filmed in Canada, filming is unlikely to begin in the winter, meaning Season 6 of the hit Netflix series will only begin filming in the spring of 2024.

The best part: there are no goodbyes yet
Ultimately, those worried that Season 6 will be “Virgin River’s” last need not worry. The series’ executive producer, Patrick Sean Smith, recently assured fans that he has no plans to end the series at this time.

Many weddings

With the central storylines being Mel and Jack’s romance, Doc and Hope’s engagement, and Lizzie’s pregnancy and sweet love, we can expect a lot of weddings in season 6.

Explore Pai de Mel Arch

Most importantly, Season 6 will explore the future relationship between Melinda and her newly discovered biological father, who is a longtime resident of the titular town and new to the series. Plus, with the cliffhanger Season 5 ended on, there’s no way Season 6 won’t explore that narrative thread.
