The first part of Season 5 left a mystery in its wake. As Mel and Jack
prepare for the holiday season, Mel receives an unexpected call from her sister,
who informs her that she has discovered a series of letters suggesting that their
mother had an affair with a man from Virgin River, raising the question of who might be Mel’s father.
The good news is that on November 30th, Netflix will release Part 2 of the fifth season. To provide a glimpse of what’s to come, EW has released the first images along with some details of what will happen in the new episodes.
Season 5 Trailer
Director Gail Harvey hinted that the new episodes of the fifth season of “Virgin River” will delve deeply into the mystery of Mel’s father’s identity. Additionally, the show’s central couple will continue to explore new avenues to become parents, considering options such as adoption or surrogacy.
However, Mel and Jack won’t be the only couple feeling the love in the air. The relationship between Preacher (Colin Lawrence) and Kaia (Kandyse McClure) will continue to blossom, as will the romance between (Zibby Allen) and Mike (Marco Grazzini). Meanwhile, Hope (Annette O’Toole) and Doc (Tim Matheson) will take a break from their health problems to enjoy the festivities.
Not everything will be smooth sailing in the “Virgin River” finale. Things will take a complicated turn for Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley) after it’s revealed that Jack is not the father of her twins; instead, it’s Calvin (David Cubitt).
Despite some bittersweet moments, Harvey promises that the final two episodes of the fifth season will be filled with holiday spirit and happiness.
“There are some very beautiful things, and some stories are tied together in a very emotional way,” explained Harvey. “There are Christmas trees, ice skating, lovely Christmas gifts, dinners, and family dynamics, both good and bad, that we can all relate to at Christmas. And many touching moments. I thought it would be great to do a Christmas episode because that’s what ‘Virgin River’ is really about: tradition and family dynamics, the good and the bad.”
The two special episodes of “Virgin River” will premiere on November 30th on Netflix. As for the sixth season of the show, fans will have to wait a bit longer, as the current writers and actors strike has delayed production on the next installment, which may not arrive until 2024.
