Virgin River fans slam ‘awful’ choice from Netflix series and fume ‘what the hell happened?

Virgin River enthusiasts have been vocal in their criticism of an “awful”

decision made in the show’s fifth season. As fans eagerly anticipate the release of season

six on Netflix, many have expressed a shared desire for a significant alteration.

A consensus has emerged that Mel Monroe’s (portrayed by Alexandra Breckenridge) fashion sense requires a drastic overhaul following some dubious sartorial choices in the previous season.

One viewer vented their frustration on Reddit this week, questioning the production team’s choices.

“Am I the only one hoping that she is dressed better in season 6? ” they queried, reports the Express. “I am rewatching the odd episode of season 5 and I forgot how old lady like they dressed her.”

It’s possible that Mel’s more relaxed attire in season five was due to her pregnancy and stepping away from her role at Virgin River’s medical centre, which allowed her to dress more informally.

Tragically, her pregnancy ended in a miscarriage, leaving both her and her partner Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) heartbroken.

Nevertheless, viewers are hopeful that the upcoming season will bring not only better fortune for Mel but also a chance for her to don more glamorous outfits.

“The long, billowy dress and outer cape she wore to the dinner at Brie’s was awful,” another fan responded. “What were they thinking of?”

Another chimed in: “I’ve been saying this! What was all that frumpy stuff? Hoping for a different wardrobe team this time around.”

Reflecting on the series’ earlier seasons, another added: “I’m rewatching season one and two and she looked so good at the start! Cute, casual outfits with great boots, little sleeveless jackets, autumnal colours. What the hell happened in those later seasons? “.

Another fan chimed in: “Easily my biggest pet peeve with the show.”

“The frumpy cardigans with the high neck shirts? I’m begging for her to have better style next season. It’s currently giving middle school teacher in their 50s.”

Season five was filled with drama, including a forest fire that could have been disastrous if not for Hope McCrea’s (Annette O’Toole) quick thinking.

Additionally, Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley) attempted to reconcile with Jack after finally admitting he wasn’t the father of her twins, while Vernon ‘Doc’ Mullins (Tim Matheson) battled with deteriorating eyesight.

Fans are hoping for more reasons for Mel and Jack to celebrate and dress up in season six – including their upcoming wedding – which might put an end to complaints about the Virgin River heroine’s dowdy wardrobe.
