Virgin River ended the last season with a surprise, but fans point out serious errors in the protagonist’s pregnancy.
Virgin River’s season ended with a shocking revelation: Mel Monroe (played by Alexandra Breckenridge) is pregnant,
but she doesn’t know who her father is. With another season on the way, viewers may have already noticed some major
problems with the rest of the series. Fans offered a simple solution to Mel’s dilemma in the Virgin River season four finale. After an in vitro treatment, Mel becomes pregnant. However, there is also a small chance that potential boyfriend and fiance, Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson), could be her father. Meanwhile, her former friend Charmaine Roberts (Lauren Hammersley) is still convinced that her twins belong to Jack.
With many unanswered questions hanging over the upcoming season of Virgin River, Mel and Jack may have to raise a baby they’re not sure is biologically theirs. Despite the final twist before the credits rolled in season four, some viewers aren’t convinced the mystery will remain for long.
Fans provide answers that solve Virgin River’s problems
One confused fan took to Reddit recently to ask why Mel can’t just check who the father is when the baby is born. User Cool-Fun-6796 posted: “I don’t know why Mel just can’t get a paternity test and complete this whole story.”
Once Mel’s son is truly born, a simple test should determine his parentage once and for all and put an end to Virgin River’s latest riddle. Looking at Charmaine’s progress throughout the series, however, it may be some time before Mel is actually ready to give birth.
Renewed for a fourth and fifth season, Virgin River could have Mel pregnant for a long time until she gives birth. Still, it shouldn’t be much longer before Mel and viewers finally find out who the baby’s father is.
Series has sacrificed logic for drama
Another fan also had some major issues with how Mel’s plan for a child fell apart in the end. Weibu11 responded, “This whole story is so stupid and unrealistic. You don’t randomly call the doctor and do IVF like she apparently did.”
Luckily Mel was able to go ahead with the procedure as she still had frozen embryos from her relationship with late husband Mark (Daniel Gillies). Still, the process was much quicker and easier than this fan claimed it would have been in reality.
They questioned, “Besides, wasn’t she only gone for a week or so? There was no way she would have known she was pregnant so quickly unless it had happened before (with Jack).”
Mel’s brief experience may be enough evidence to believe that Jack is actually the father of her child. Unfortunately, the clues are still too inconclusive to provide a definitive answer, so fans will just have to wait for the fourth season to be released to find out the truth.
