Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) is returning to Emmerdale, according to reports.
The character, who is hugely loved by fans, has been behind bars since 2019.
His love story with fellow villager Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) won the couple an army of fans and they became one of soap’s most loved couples of all time.
However, Robron, as they were known to the audience, were torn apart in 2019 when he was sentenced to 14 years in prison for the manslaughter of his sister Victoria Sugden’s (Isabel Hodgins) rapist Lee Posner (Kris Mochrie).
After years of people wanting to see Robert again, their wish is finally coming true, as the character is allegedly returning for a short stint.
In a storyline packed with family drama, Robert will be on our screens next month, according to The Sun.He is reportedly returning for Aaron’s wedding to John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth), who is Robert’s brother.
‘Ryan has a lot of respect for the show and its fans and he really wanted to give them a treat so he agreed to come back for a brief stint’, a source told the publication.
‘It’s going to be a huge surprise for fans especially the Robron fans who have missed Robert desperately since Ryan quit.
‘Nothing was seen as being too extreme to keep the secret with fake names on scripts, smuggling him in and out of the studios and keeping everything very tight.’
Metro has contacted Emmerdale for a comment.
Aaron Dingle remains unaware his partner is hiding a hugely dark secret about his true self. John Sugden has so far been responsible for crimes including killing Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter), drugging Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter), framing Ella Forster (Paula Lane) and inflicting an allergic reaction on Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant).
The complex Sugden is often seen orchestrating situations that he knows he can fix, so he can step in and appear a hero to those watching.
‘They decided to show a new way of how we tell stories, to try and keep up with Netflix and Amazon and these brilliant dramas being made. So it’s a bit of a special episode, there are a fair few surprises, a couple that are huge and a couple that people will really enjoy – and some that people won’t!
