Chicago Fire is developing a reputation for its shocking cast departures, and now
there’s evidence that another beloved character might be leaving the show soon.
While fans are still reeling over Otis’s sudden death after the season 8 premiere,
we’re already worried about the fate of someone else. The show’s most recent installment, “Buckle Up,” may have just set the stage for another member of the crew to leave Firehouse 51—and we think it’s Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo).
For most of the squad, the episode centered around a scheme laid out by criminals to crash cars and then make money off the incidents. However, Stella was busy trying to prove herself at a leadership conference.
The longtime firefighter used her experience and skills to prove that she has what it takes to be an officer—and news of her impressive performance made its way back to Boden. The chief was happy to hear about Stella’s latest achievement and it became clear that she’s in a good position to be the next firefighter to get promoted.
But there’s a catch: 51 already has an Engine lieutenant, a Squad lieutenant, and a Truck captain. In other words, there’s no room for another officer—so Stella might have to find a new firehouse if she wants to move up.
This is all speculation, and CinemaBlend pointed out that someone else could end up leaving the squad to make room for Stella. Until we know for sure, we’re going to keep our excitement around her blossoming career (and her relationship with Severide) in check.
