Two ‘Fire Country’ Original Cast Members Leaving The Show

Fire Country capped off its third season with a blazing two-part season finale on Friday (April 25), but it comes with some bad news for fans — two original cast members are leaving, and it was a bit of a bait-and-switch for fans because the person the show has been hinting at leaving is not one of them. Beware of spoilers ahead.

According to Deadline, it is not Jordan Calloway leaving — in recent weeks, the show has been making it seem like his character, Captain Jake Crawford, would be departing Station 42 for a better job somewhere else.

Instead, it is Stephanie Arcila, who plays Gabriela Perez, and Billy Burke, who plays Fire Battalion Chief Vince Leone. What this will mean for the character of Bode Leone (Max Thieriot) is anyone’s guess because Arcila’s Perez is his on-again, off-again love interest, and Battalion Chief Leone is Bode’s father.

The season 3 finale did not actually show either character leaving, though it did leave Battalion Chief Leone in jeopardy. Vince and his wife Sharon (Diane Farr) and retired chief Walter (Jeff Fahey), who is Vince’s dad and Bode’s grandfather, are all trapped inside the memory care facility where Walter is being treated. The facility caught fire and collapsed, which doesn’t look good for the Leone family.

Perez, meanwhile, had a scary encounter with her stalker Finn (Blake Lee), but she did survive without any serious physical injuries, so at least she wasn’t killed off. That could leave the door open for a future return.

Arcila and Burke are two of seven original cast members who started on the show together three seasons ago. The other five include Farr, Calloway, Thieriot, Kevin Alejandro and Jules Latimer.

These departures come on the heels of two Chicago Fire series regulars departing that show as well. There have been talks in recent years of budget tightening at the broadcast networks, but the executive producers of Fire Country told Deadline that budget cuts are not the reason for Arcila and Burke’s departures.

It really comes down to “what’s the best creatively,” said EP Joan Rater, but the EPs did say that they plan to have Arcila return as a guest star.

“We love Stephanie, and we are committed to saying that the Bode-Gabriela story does not end here; it goes on. We’re hoping that we can bring that character back, because we think that they have such great chemistry, and the audience is really invested in the two of them,” said EP Tony Phelan
