Thomas kills Liam because he thinks he robbed Hope, mental diagnosis lets Thomas off the hook

Thomas Forrester’s return to Los Angeles sparks a chain of tragic events after a traumatic brain injury in Paris leaves him mentally unstable. Awakening from a coma, Thomas clings to a delusion: he believes he’s married to Hope Logan and they share a blissful family life. But none of it is real. The injury has implanted false memories, and as he reenters Hope’s life, she’s caught between compassion and caution. Ridge urges Hope to play along to stabilize Thomas, and though hesitant, she agrees—only to become a prisoner of his delusional world.

Hope secretly maintains her relationship with Liam Spencer, who remains skeptical of the arrangement but respects Hope’s dedication. But everything unravels when Thomas witnesses an embrace between Hope and Liam during a clandestine meeting. Though he doesn’t confront them, the sight triggers a descent into paranoia and rage. Thomas, spiraling further into psychosis, begins targeting Liam—sabotaging his car, manipulating schedules, and stalking him. Then, convinced Liam must be eliminated, Thomas lures him to a secluded cliffside.

In a chilling confrontation, Thomas accuses Liam of destroying his dream life. A struggle breaks out. As Thomas lunges, Hope intervenes—her scream distracting him just long enough for Liam to escape, causing Thomas to slip and nearly fall. Carter rescues him, and he’s institutionalized. Doctors determine he suffers from dissociative psychosis and is unfit for trial. But the delusion only festers.

Days later, Thomas escapes supervision and returns to finish what he started. Finding Liam alone at Steffy’s cliff house, Thomas stabs him fatally. Liam dies whispering Hope’s name. Hope discovers his body and is left shattered. Again, Thomas evades justice due to mental incompetence and is committed indefinitely. The fallout devastates everyone: Ridge steps down, Taylor disappears, and Hope transforms—no longer a victim, but a survivor hardened by grief and betrayal.
