EastEnders may be about to bring back another past character in an upcoming storyline involving Max Branning.
After fan-favourite star Jake Wood has been tipped for a shocking return to Walford as Max, it seems that he’ll get back to Albert Square with his son Oscar in tow (via The Sun).
Reports are circulating that the BBC soap has recast the role of Oscar, now a teenager played by newcomer Pierre Moullier who takes over from Charlee Hall. Oscar was last seen on the series eight years ago when he briefly met with his father.
Digital Spy has reached out to EastEnders, who declined to comment on the reports. The soap didn’t confirm Max Branning’s return plot either, which means a Max comeback isn’t official at this stage.
The Sun, who first reported of Max’s return, divulged some insider’s details about the character’s comeback.
In true Max fashion, he is set to return to “ruffle some feathers”.
“Bosses are excited about what his character’s reappearance means for spicing up the plots,” a source told the publication.
“There is plenty to go at. Max has loads of unfinished business in the Square and is set to ruffle some feathers.”
In 2021, Wood said he was “really pleased” that EastEnders bosses had left the door open should he wish to reprise the role of Max.
“I never got bored playing him… although the scene when I was buried alive was tough,” he told The Mirror at the time.
“It was hard graft, but I’m really pleased that they’ve left the door open for the character to return. Never say never.”
