Emmerdale fans are buzzing with speculation that a plot twist is on the horizon for Chas Dingle after they spotted a “dark clue”.
Chas has been through the wringer recently, following the devastating limo accident and her engagement to the village GP, Liam Cavanagh.
In a dramatic turn of events last month, Chas was found unconscious in The Woolpack, after collapsing and hitting her head. It was later disclosed by a medic that she had suffered an overdose.
Liam immediately suspected his former flame Ella Forster, who had shown up at their engagement celebration the day before, but she vehemently denied any involvement.
However, after discovering Ella had been lurking around the pub’s back room, Liam didn’t hesitate to inform the police, resulting in her arrest. Chas later told Ella that she would drop the charges if she left the village for good, reports Leeds Live.
The extended instalment saw tensions escalate as Ella desperately sought to convince Liam of her innocence, even enlisting Mandy Dingle’s help.
Ella orchestrated a meeting with Liam at Mandy’s house, where she tearfully implored him to hear her out, all while brandishing a knife.
Liam played along, suggesting he might reconsider their relationship if she came clean, prompting Ella to confess to tampering with Chas’s medication.
But sensing Liam’s deceit, Ella quickly retracted her confession, insisting she hadn’t drugged Chas, and hastily exited the scene.
Despite Chas and Mandy urging him not to follow Ella, Liam caught up with her in the woods. During a tense exchange, Ella pushed Liam to the ground, causing him to hit his head.
“I wanted to belong, that’s all… I know I’ve hurt you and Chas, but I never drugged her, I swear. Please believe me,” Ella pleaded through tears as the police took her into custody.
In Friday’s (April 4) episode, now streaming on ITVX, Liam suggested they retract their statements to the police, hoping Ella can receive the help she desperately requires instead of facing jail time.
“She needs punishing for this,” a shocked Chas responded, while Liam countered, insisting imprisonment would only exacerbate Ella’s situation.
Chas and Liam’s wedding plans have since been put on hold as they contemplate how best to deal with the tumultuous events surrounding Ella.
Even with Ella behind bars, several Emmerdale viewers reckon there’s more to the story, suspecting a set-up with Chas as the orchestrator.
One perceptive fan noted a potential clue on a Facebook group discussion: “They changed Chas’s makeup to a harsher style again. I find they do so when she has been given a darker storyline, and softer makeup during normal storylines. It makes me wonder if she was behind everything to get rid of Ella.”
“There’s a twist coming,” another added, while a third said, “I don’t believe it’s Ella, I think Chas has done it to herself.”
Meanwhile, other fans believe that Chas is innocent, but are suspecting that Liam may be harbouring doubts about his soon-to-be bride.
