Kat Slater and Alfie Moon (Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie) have a rich history
in EastEnders, but Kat left Alfie gutted in recent scenes when she called for the end
of an era. After splitting up with husband Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) and
getting on the wrong side of Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry), Kat found herself with nowhere to live, and was grateful when Alfie offered her a room in his flat. Co-habiting was going surprisingly smoothly for the family – perhaps too well for Kat’s liking. Kat and Alfie’s kids seem to have gotten the impression that they are set to get back together, with son Tommy Moon (Sonny Kendall) having encouraged Alfie to tell Kat how he really feels. However, he never found the courage, and Kat has since rained on his parade by making it clear that they are just friends. In recent scenes, thins got even more complicated when Freddie Slater (Bobby Brazier) returned with Mo Harris (Laila Morse) in tow, and realised that he was now homeless.
Of course, no Slater is ever really homeless, as they somehow always manage to find room for an extra person at No.31. Jean made it clear that Freddie was more than welcome in the family home, though he seemed uncomfortable being back there. Viewers will remember that Freddie was arrested for attempted murder after attacking sinister stalker Theo Hawthorne (William Ellis) with an iron in defence of Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner), and headed straight to stay with mum Little Mo after being released on bail. As Kat revealed how nice it was to have him back, Freddie had to tear his eyes away from the spot where Theo had been left unconscious.
Swiftly moving the conversation on, he insisted that it must be nice for Kat’s boys having their parents back together, though Kat was adamant that that wasn’t the case. As Freddie and Jean continued to tease her, it got her thinking, and she soon came up with a plan to put an end to things once and for all. When Freddie later arrived at Alfie’s flat to pick up some of his things, it was clear he still wasn’t happy about the move.
In order to save his feelings and put a stop to the rumours about her and Alfie, Kat revealed that she planned to move out the next day so that Freddie could have his room back. Though Tommy and Alfie were adamant that they should stay, Kat insisted that she was sick of people getting the wrong idea about their relationship, and pointed out that it wasn’t fair to confuse Bert and Ernie. With her mind made up, Alfie was left devastated. Will he ever get the opportunity to tell her how he really feels?
