Will Matty resort to violence to protect himself? In a dramatic turn of events, Emmerdale’s
Cain Dingle offers some tough advice to his jailed stepson, Matty Barton, next week. The bad
boy warns Matty that he needs to toughen up as he starts interacting more with the other prisoners.
As next week’s episodes begin, Matty’s wife Amy struggles with being apart from him, especially since he has asked her not to visit again. Instead, Matty talks to Amy over the phone and draws strength from her support. Ending the call with a brave smile, Matty heads back to his cell. However, his upbeat mood quickly turns to concern when he discovers that prison hardman Les has moved into his cell. Matty, who has been isolated from the other inmates so far, now faces a new challenge due to overcrowding.
The new living arrangements get off to a rocky start as Les taunts Matty with some unsettling jokes, making Matty fear for his safety. Later in the week, Cain visits Matty and is alarmed when he sees his stepson’s low spirits. Matty discreetly points out Les as his new cellmate and admits his worries about the situation. Despite Cain’s attempts to offer support, Matty struggles to keep his emotions in check.
Cain then gives Matty some controversial advice: use violence against anyone who threatens him. Cain believes that if Matty shows he’s not to be messed with, the other prisoners will leave him alone. Matty is left terrified by what this might mean he has to do. Will he follow Cain’s advice?
This storyline began earlier this month when Samson Dingle was accidentally stabbed during an attempted robbery at The Hide. Samson and his new friend Josh Cope lied, claiming Matty deliberately attacked them. With little evidence to prove his innocence, Matty is now being held on remand ahead of his trial.
Emmerdale airs these gripping scenes on Thursday, June 27, and Friday, June 28. Stay tuned for more emotional twists and turns!
