EASTENDERS fans are convinced they have worked out who will be returning for the
soap’s upcoming 40th anniversary. There has been much speculation about some big returns
for the BBC soap’s anniversary in early 2025. With big names like Chrissie Watts and
David Wicks already confirmed to return this year, there are some even bigger names in the works for next year. Taking to X – formerly known as Twitter – fans predicted which former characters they think will make an epic return. One said: “It’s got to be are shirl #EastEnders.” Another wrote: “Mick, to testify L is telling the truth.” read more on eastenders A third commented: “Zoe Slater.” A fourth added: “Shabnam.” This comes after actor Matt Di Angelo (who plays Dean Wicks) was revealed as a major character to return for the soap’s 40th anniversary. He said viewers are in store for some “big surprises.”

He told The Sun: “As we head towards our 40th year, I think the nostalgic element means a lot. EastEnders facts and figures THE beloved British soap has been captivating audiences for decades. “Into the autumn and the end of the year, we’ve got quite a few treats coming up.” When asked whether any former stars could make a return to the BBC soap, he said: “Maybe. It all depends on the story and where the characters are.
“But it has to come from character, it has to come from story.” Eagle-eyed fans might already have spotted clues about who could return. Asked if he had been planting hints in scripts, Chris added: “It would depend when they’re looking back from, but probably. “The 40th has been in the works for quite some time and Christmas is well under way.
