The following article contains spoilers from an episode of EastEnders that
hasn’t aired on BBC One yet, but is available to view on BBC iPlayer.
Eve Unwin (Heather Peace) received worrying news about her mum in tonight’s
episode of EastEnders, and we can’t help but wonder if Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry) was responsible. The dying patriarch had tricked his family into believing he had turned over a new leaf after kidnapping son Vinny Panesar (Shiv Jalota) before trying to kill him last month.
However, his feud with ex-wife Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) bubbled to the surface again this week, as she celebrated her engagement to Eve.
Nish had tried to manipulate Suki by arranging for their grandson Tye to visit Walford, knowing that the child’s mother Habiba Ahmed (Rukku Nahar) had previously blocked Suki from seeing him as she was indirectly responsible for the death of Tye’s father and Suki’s son Jags (Amar Adatia).
Nish’s gesture made his grandchildren Avani Nandra-Hart (Aaliyah James) and Nugget Gualti (Juhaim Rasul Choudhury) pressure Suki and Eve into letting him join their engagement party at The Albert, to which they eventually agreed.
That later proved to be a disastrous mistake, when unbeknown to them, he overheard the couple toasting his impending demise from his terminal lung condition.
He was then seen making an ominous phone call as he watched a loved-up Suki and Eve canoodling on the Albert balcony. Speaking to a mystery figure, he ordered an attack, saying: ‘Not too much, just rough her up a bit – enough to put her in hospital for a decent stretch.’
When tonight’s episode of the BBC One soap opened, Eve was on the phone sounding panicked. As she ended the call, Eve told Suki that her mum had been mugged while out shopping and is now in hospital.
Eve said that she needed to go to Yorkshire today and naturally assumed Suki would be coming along for support.
Just as they prepared to leave though, there was a knock at the door. Suki knew that Nish would be on the doorstep with young Tye and wanted to say hello.
The sight of the little lad and the thought of spending time with him led Suki to telling Eve that she would stay at home instead.
Eve felt hurt and left for Yorkshire alone, which left Nish feeling pleased with himself. While we don’t have confirmation he definitely organised the attack on Eve’s mum, the timing of it certainly suggests he did.
While Eve travelled, Suki hung out with the Panesars, Tye and a smug Nish in the background.
Suki then received a call from Eve, who apologised and said she understood why she chose to stay in Walford.
She then turned the phone around so Eve could say hello to Tye. The young lad jumped up and hugged Suki and happily said hello to Eve.
Nish watched in the background, clearly troubled his plan didn’t completely work.
