EastEnders actor Jaden Ladega has teased the soap’s upcoming anniversary episode.
It was recently announced that the BBC soap will be celebrating its 40th birthday with
not just a live episode, but one where a viewer vote will decide how parts of it play out.
Full details haven’t been revealed yet, but we know it will involve a love story. Speaking exclusively on the red carpet of tonight’s (September 11) National Television Awards 2024, the Denzel Danes actor admitted to feeling a mix of emotions about the concept. “It’s exciting because I feel like it’s never been done, even when I’ve been there. It’s cool that the public can pick [the outcome],” he said. “I’m pretty excited about it, the live episodes at EastEnders have always been absolutely amazing, but this is a bit nerve-wracking at the same time. But I’d love to be in it. It’s a big, big, big [story], 40 years of EastEnders.”
When asked if there was a chance that Denzel and Amy Mitchell could get back together, he said “No comment”, but added that he “would certainly like [them] to”. When asked about the response to Denzel’s steroid use storyline, Ladega stated that he had received “really positive reactions” from fans. “I think it’s really important highlighting that teenage boys feel in their body that they’re not enough,” he said. EastEnders first went live in 2010 for the revelation of who killed Archie Mitchell and did so again in 2015 during the big ‘who killed Lucy Beale’ reveal.
