There’s a rollercoaster of emotions ahead in Emmerdale next week, as Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) receives life-changing news at the hospital, only for the moment to be shattered when Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) finally discovers the truth about her granddaughter’s cancer diagnosis.
Fans have seen Sarah quietly dealing with a serious health scare in recent weeks, but determined not to worry her family, the teen bravely decided to face it alone. However, her secret is finally exposed, leading to explosive fallout in the Dales.
Sarah attends her medical procedure, hopeful but understandably anxious. Thankfully, she’s soon elated to hear from Doctor Knapp that a good number of eggs were successfully retrieved for viability testing, an important step as Sarah faces treatment that could impact her fertility.
But her relief is short-lived. Later, back in the village, Charity answers a call on Sarah’s phone only to be blindsided by what she hears. The call is from the hospital, and it reveals to Charity that Sarah has cancer.

Charity is devastated and furious with the news. Hurt that Sarah has been hiding something so serious, she immediately confronts her. Sarah is floored when Charity reveals she knows the truth.
Caught in the middle of fear, anger, and guilt, Sarah tries to explain. She wanted to protect Charity from the pain, especially after everything their family has been through.
Long-time fans will know this isn’t Sarah’s first experience with serious illness. As a child, she battled both Fanconi anaemia and leukaemia, surviving against the odds thanks to a life-saving bone marrow transplant from her late brother, Jack.

Now a young adult, Sarah is more independent and perhaps more guarded. She’s experienced more trauma than most her age, and wishes to protect Charity.
As the reality of Sarah’s diagnosis sinks in, the question remains: can she and Charity find a way forward together? And will this latest health battle strengthen their bond, or break it?
One thing’s for sure: Emmerdale fans should brace for more emotional scenes from the Village.
