Emmerdale‘s Mary Goskirk announces plans to leave the village for a while in Wednesday’s episode.
Mary shares her desire for some time away following the recent challenges her family have faced over the limo crash and April Windsor’s disappearance.
Marlon Dingle and Rhona Goskirk are currently struggling to get their lives back to normal after troubled teenager April returned to the village following her traumatic time living on the streets.
Their problems piled up last month when Mary was revealed to have betrayed Vanessa Woodfield by sharing a secret kiss with Suzy Merton before she died in the limo crash.
This led to Vanessa falling out with Rhona, who was torn over her divided loyalties to her mum and best friend.
In Wednesday’s episode, Mary feels disheartened after a failed attempt to make amends with Vanessa.
She tells Rhona: “I think I might go away for a while. Visit your aunty Vivian down in Brighton. Vanessa needs space – and I think you lot do as well. Just look at everything that’s gone on here lately – you didn’t even have a clue.
“You’ve all been through so much, I think you need to figure out what it is to be a family again. What you don’t need is a live-in granny, making it all harder.”
Mary adds: “It won’t be for long, poppet. I’m always at the end of the phone.”
We can confirm that this is just an on-screen break for Mary and she’ll be back at a later date.
Speaking recently to Inside Soap about her time on Emmerdale, Louise Jameson – who plays Mary – commented: “I love it! Honestly, I’ve rarely been this happy in a job.
“I work with such a generous, lovely bunch of people and I’m having a great time. I feel so blessed to have landed a role like this in my 70s, every day I am grateful.”
Emmerdale fans can see Mary and Rhona’s heart-to-heart tonight at 7.30pm on ITV1, or right now on ITVX.
