Emmerdale fans are certain they know what happened to Robert Sugden in prison in a heartbreaking twist.
Robert (Ryan Hawley) made his epic comeback recently after six years. As fans will recall, he was sent to prison in 2019 for the murder of Lee Posner (Kris Mochrie), who raped his sister Victoria (Isabel Hodgins).
Formerly married to Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller), Robert’s ex-husband has since moved on and married his half-brother, John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth).
John – who made his debut last year – is hiding many secrets, including the fact that he killed beloved villager Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter) and dumped his body in a local river.

Recently though, Robert was back in the village for good and moved in with sister Victoria, in a bid to put his life back together.
Certain that John is hiding something, Robert is also determined to expose the secret killer, while trying to win back his former flame Aaron.
However, it appears that Robert is fighting demons of his own at the moment and is suffering from PTSD.

He has been struggling with PTSD
As well as turning to drink, Robert is having nightmares, clearly traumatised by his previous stint in prison. Last week, he accidentally hit Victoria after she tried to wake him up.
And now, fans have ‘worked out’ a heartbreaking sexual assault twist as they ‘know’ what exactly happened to Robert while he was in prison.
“Do you think Robert could have been raped in prison? We know he was attacked and he might be traumatised by that plus other stuff,” said one person on a Reddit thread.

Someone else agreed: “It did cross my mind as well.” Referring to when Robert accidentally struck Victoria, they added: “It felt like a very deliberate choice that they had Victoria tap his thigh to wake him rather than his shoulder or something. And the shot focused on exactly where she touched him.”
A third chimed in: “I think it might end up going that way and definitely would be what changes Aaron’s reaction to him and bring forward their reunion.”
Another person penned: “Yeah I’ve been saying this too and I reckon it could be what gets Aaron to realise he’s struggling.”
