EastEnders legend shares sweet throwback picture with June Brown three years after death

EastEnders star Jane Slaughter shared an adorable picture of her and legendary actress June Brown just days after the three year anniversary of the BBC soap star’s death. The 63 year old actress, who plays legendary barmaid Tracey, posted the throwback picture of her posing alongside June, as the pair smiled broadly for the camera.

She captioned the post on Instagram saying: “Miss this legend, June Brown.” This was accompanied by a red heart emoji.

In the picture both Jane and June are hugging each other tightly as they donned glamorous outfits. June is seen smartly dressed in a matching sky blue skirt suit, teamed with a white hat. Meanwhile, Jane wore a feathered fascinator along with a matching dark blue dress.

With more than two thousand likes, one person commented: “They don’t make them like June anymore. She was a one off.” Another person said: “Aaahhhh so do we.”

Jane’s post seemed to resonate with a number of people who all shared the same sentiment as a third jumped in and said: “She will be deeply missed by so many of us.”

Jane first joined the BBC soap in 1985, which makes her one of the longest serving characters on the show to not have had any breaks or exits.

The mother of two, reportedly revealed to Radio Times during an interview that she had always been in work as a child star but never quite made the leap into the industry as an adult actress.

She reportedly said: “As a child, I was lucky and worked continually. Then I got in to my late teens and I lost my way. I wanted to play it safe, didn’t want to be brave, and never made that leap to adult actress.”

Jane was one of millions of people across the UK who felt the heartbreak when it was confirmed that June, who played the iconic Dot Cotton, had passed away on April 3 2022. At the time of her death, June was aged 95.

Best known for portraying the handbag clutching, cigarette smoking resident of Albert Square, Dot Cotton touched the hearts of many as she fell victim to the rogue behaviour of husband Charlie and son Nick.

At the time, EastEnders bosses made a heartfelt tribute and wrote: “We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved June Brown, OBE, MBE sadly passed away last night. “”

It added: “There are not enough words to describe how much June was loved and adored by everyone at EastEnders, her loving warmth, wit and great humour will never be forgotten…”

It continued: “June created one of the most iconic characters in Dot Cotton, not just in soap but in British television, and having appeared in 2884 episodes, June’s remarkable performances created some of EastEnders finest moments…”

The tribute concluded: “We send all our love and deepest sympathies to June’s family and friends. A very bright light has gone out at EastEnders today – we shall all be raising a sweet sherry in June’s memory. Rest in peace, our dearest June. You will never be forgotten.”
