Emmerdale has seemingly revealed who will bring down the sinister character, John Sugden, following the unveiling of his dark past.
John, played by Oliver Farnworth, arrived in the Dales last year claiming to be the long-lost son of Jack Sugden (Clive Hornby), quickly making a mark on the locals.
The enigmatic doctor has since become a part of the village, getting acquainted with his distant relatives, including sister Victoria (Isabel Hodgins). He also got engaged to Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller).
However, not much is known about John’s history, except that he reportedly served in the military a few years back. Moreover, it was recently confirmed by the showrunners that John’s darker side would soon be delved into.
This week in the Dales, Emmerdale unveiled a significant twist about John, allowing viewers to finally understand what he’s been up to over the past year, reports Leicestershire Live.
In Thursday’s episode (April 10), the soap aired several flashbacks, one of which confirmed that he was responsible for the death of Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter).
After the barn fire last year, Nate was saved by John, who then injected him with medication in an attempt to save his life. However, as John prepared to give another dose of medication, he was shocked to discover that Nate had died.
In a chilling turn of events, John was seen transporting Nate’s lifeless body in his van to a village bridge. There, he discarded Nate’s body – which was concealed in a bag – into the same lake as the limo crash.
But that wasn’t the end of it – the soap also revealed that John was the mastermind behind setting up Ella Forster (Paula Lane) and the person who drugged his future mother-in-law Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) last month. In another plot twist, John also poisoned Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant), who has a severe nut allergy, just so he could rescue him and be celebrated as a hero by the villagers.
However, with John’s secrets now out in the open, fans are convinced it won’t be long until he faces his comeuppance. Sharing their theories online, viewers have also ‘figured out’ who will be the one to expose him.
“Wow, John has some serious narcissistic, psychopathic, PTSD, hero complex going on! Tonight’s episode is a good one,” commented one person on an Emmerdale Facebook fan page.
Referring to a potential ‘hint’ about who brings John down, a second fan wrote: “I think Aaron is piecing it all together, he had a strange look on his face at their flat when John returned from the doctors.” A third agreed: “Yeah I think it will be Aaron that puts an end to him.” Echoing their thoughts, another viewer added: “Yeah I hope so too.”
