Progress Update on Fire Country’s Highly-Anticipated Sheriff Spinoff from Max Thieriot: “I Couldn’t Be More Excited”

Max Thieriot, co-creator of Fire Country, has shared an exciting update

on the development of the much-anticipated spinoff series, Sheriff Country.

The original Fire Country, which stars Thieriot alongside Kevin Alejandro

and Jordan Calloway, is set to return for its third season on October 18. Earlier this year, it was announced that Sheriff Country, featuring Morena Baccarin as Sheriff Mickey Fox, will premiere during the 2025-26 season. Baccarin’s guest appearance in Fire Country Season 2 garnered significant attention, leading to a direct series order for the spinoff.

In a recent interview with Deadline, Thieriot expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming show, highlighting Baccarin’s talent and the exceptional writers’ room that has been assembled. As an executive producer and co-creator of Sheriff Country, Thieriot shared his excitement for the project, saying:

Sheriff Country is something we’re very excited about. Morena is incredible. We’ve been assembling a really amazing writers’ room. I spoke with Joan and Tony the other day, and they’ve been working with [showrunner] Matt Lopez. I couldn’t be more excited for that show to be coming out.”

Will Sheriff Country Be a Hit for CBS?

While the series has yet to premiere, there are high hopes for its long-term success. The show aims to leverage an existing formula while delivering fresh and engaging narratives. By focusing on law enforcement officers rather than firefighters, Sheriff Country will adopt a police procedural format set against a vast rural backdrop, distinguishing it from typical city-based procedurals like The RookieLaw & Order, and Blue Bloods. This unique angle positions Sheriff Country for success alongside its sister show.

Although the future of Fire Country in terms of seasons remains uncertain, there seems to be ample opportunity for growth and storytelling potential. Sheriff Country is expected to carve out its own identity while also drawing from Fire Country for guest appearances and overlapping storylines, helping it attract a similar audience and engage procedural fans.

Insights into the Creative Direction of Sheriff Country

Thieriot, who hails from Sonoma County, has infused his personal experiences into Fire Country and may bring a similar creative vision to Sheriff Country. As Fire Country prepares for its third-season premiere, Thieriot’s long-standing relationship with CBS likely grants him the creative latitude to explore new ideas in the spinoff. While it remains unclear whether Thieriot will reprise his role as Bode in Sheriff Country, the shared universe of the two shows makes crossovers highly likely.Sheriff Country aspires to be an expansive police drama, showcasing its breathtaking Vancouver scenery and leveraging talented actors from Fire Country. With the groundwork laid for both shows, fans can look forward to an exciting new chapter in the Fire Country universe.
