Emmerdale has confirmed plans for Joe Tate to face the consequences of his illegal kidney-stealing plan.
The ITV soap sparked some controversy this week by airing a story which saw Joe successfully conspire to steal a kidney from his uncle Caleb.
Real-life charity Kidney Research UK criticised the portrayal of organ theft as “implausible” and “dangerous”, and expressed fears that it could undermine public confidence in the transplant system.
In response, an Emmerdale spokesperson told us: “Joe Tate’s desperate actions are not being held up as an example and as with any soap villain he will ultimately get his comeuppance.”
Fans see the first signs of trouble next week, as Cain vows to find out the truth about Caleb’s recent stabbing.

Coronation Street exit for Mick revealed
Coronation Street‘s new villain Mick Michaelis is leaving the show this summer.
The troublesome character only made his first appearance a few weeks ago, but it’s now been revealed that he was only ever intended to be a short-term bad boy for the show.
Joe Layton, who plays Mick, signed up for fixed contract late last year.
He’ll film his final scenes next month and bow out on screen as part of a dramatic story in July.
