BBC’s EastEnders Cindy Beale actress Michelle Collins, 62, has revealed the jaw-dropping return of Albert Square legend Angie Watts was as surprising to her as it was to the fans of the soap.
The series has been celebrating its 40th anniversary this week, and its kept audiences on the edge of their seats with shocking twists and turns.

The biggest reveal was the return of Anita Dobson’s Angie Watts, who was last seen in Walford back in 1988 after a three-year run since EastEnders premiere.

Michelle made her debut on the soap in 1988 and has been a mainstay of the series since.

While speaking on Good Morning Britain on Thursday, she shared her thoughts on the explosive moments in the Queen Vic, along with the secretive return of Angie.
“Wasn’t it just fantastic? “Oh it was brilliant, I didn’t know,” Michelle admitted, adding, “I was watching with friends, and they were just like ‘oh my God it’s Ange, it’s Ange. It was such a great episode.”
Looking ahead at tonight’s live episode, Michelle continued, “Hopefully it’s everything that everybody wants, and they will be glued to it tonight.”

Angie was infamously killed off, off-screen, leaving fans without hope for her return.
However, it was her daughter, Sharon Watts (played by Letitia Dean) who made the impossible a reality by seeing her mother, Angie, in a hallucination.

While fading in and out of consciousness on the floor of the Queen Vic, Angie appeared among the rubble to help her daughter one last time.
Angie told Sharon: “Use that voice and you start screaming for help. That’s it baby, you start screaming for help. That’s my girl.”
Later in the interview, Michelle confirmed that Cindy would not be returning to Albert Square for tonight’s live episode.

She was last seen being taken away in an ambulance, making it impossible for her to make an appearance.
“Sadly Cindy isn’t in it, Michelle said. “You know what, in a way I get it, why she cant be in it. So it’s less stressful for me – but exciting.”
