Coronation Street fans have complained that a decision made by the show when it comes to one of Carla Connor’s latest storylines is ‘criminal’.
As those who follow the ITV soap know, the Underworld factory boss has been the real owner of the Rovers Return since last year.
Ay the end of 2023 and into early 2024, the Rovers and its staff faced a tumultuous time and the beloved pub experienced a period of closure after landlady Jenny Connor was forced to sell up.
A result of crippling costs amid the Cost of Living crisis, Jenny sold the beloved pub to Newton and Ridley and all seemed well as she was able to continue running the pub with the help of her staff.
However, the jubilation didn’t last long as they discovered Newton and Ridley were being sold to another company, Waterford Incorporated and as a result, they all lost their jobs.
With the pub undergoing refurbishment, it was left empty of customers for a while before Daisy Midgeley came up with a cunning plan.
Following serial killer Stephen Reid’s shock death, after some digging, Daisy found Stephen’s journal which was dumped by his mother Audrey Roberts. After studying his notes and scribbles, Daisy figures out the password for the account holding the significant amount of money he had stolen from Carla’s factory accounts.
Carla later found out and Jenny had to promise to start paying her back. But it was then last month that Carla decided action finally needed to be taken and that the Rovers Return needs to be sold for her to recoup her missing cash, after having to borrow money to pay for her kidney transplant as her jailbird brother, Rob Donovan, ended up being her donor.
Jenny had recently planned to buy the pub for herself, having had a windfall of £60,000 from an investment her ex-husband – Daisy Midgeley’s dad – made in her name matured. But she has since been left penniless after Daisy conducted one last scheme before leaving Weatherfield behind, with the cash.
Corrie viewers then saw last week that Ryan Connor was left tentatively explaining to Jenny that she’s no longer his boss and he takes his orders from Carla now. Jenny was upset and trying to help, Glenda, as she showed some prospective buyers around the pub, attempted to put them off.

But it’s Glenda who has since been made manager of the pub by Carla, with Jenny now looking to pastures new having landed herself a job with Brian Packham at The Kabin.
But there is one part of the storyline that has confused Corrie viewers as they noted how we never saw Carla explain her situation with the Rovers to her girlfriend Lisa Swain.
@TVMusings22 said: “Sorry but the fact we never got to see Lisa’s reaction to Carla owning the pub is criminal! That’s a pretty big deal and quite significant, I’d rather have seen that than fake injury gate. Why are #Swarla at the bottom the pile when it comes to scenes that matter??
“Yet #Corrie put them forward for an award? Yet we don’t see any of their relationship only when the kid is kicking off . Would be good to actually see the attention to detail that once was.” @NicolaHynes1 replied: “Yesh we do need to see more of their relationship on screen and the important things and I would have loved to have seen betsy and Lisa finding out as clearly they know now based on that scene
@sadpphicss shared: “There are so many missing scenes tho! Like how and when did Carla tell Lisa and Betsy about the Rovers? Did she tell them about the stolen money? Did she talk to Betsy after she found out she was faking her injury? And what about Bobby? So many questions#Corrie #Swarla.”
@_AIison_ added: “I hate how much is happening off screen. I know it’s not the swarla show and there are so many other characters and storylines but it’s still frustrating.”
