1923, has bagged a part in an upcoming Netflix thriller. She’ll be sharing the screen with Luther star Idris Elba and Dune’s Rebecca Ferguson in this yet-to-be-titled film. As per Deadline, fresh face Malachi Beasley is also on board for this new project helmed by Kathryn Bigelow, the acclaimed director of The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty. The star-studded cast will also feature Jared Harris, Greta Lee, Gabriel Basso, Tracy Letts, and Moses Ingram. While the storyline remains under wraps, it’s understood that the action will unfold at the White House amidst a national crisis. Aminah Nieves plays Teonna Rainwater in the Yellowstone prequel series 1923  This marks Bigelow’s first directorial venture since her 2017 fact-based drama Detroit, which depicted the 1967 Detroit riots where “a group of rogue police officers respond to a complaint with retribution rather than justice on their minds”, according to IMDb.

Netflix announced this untitled project during its Upfront presentation in New York earlier this year. Other major reveals included the confirmation of Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore sequel and an adaptation of Ruth Ware’s suspense novel The Woman in Cabin 10, starring Keira Knightley. In the Yellowstone prequel 1923, Teonna Rainwater is a key character and a fan favourite of the Paramount Plus show, reports the Express. Teonna, a young girl from the Broken Rock Reservation, was taken from her family and placed in an abusive Catholic boarding school, a fate shared by many other Native American children.

The release window for 1923 is yet to be confirmed, but with production having started this summer, it’s estimated that we might see a second season as early as 2025. Yellowstone, a highly acclaimed drama series, is the brainchild of Taylor Sheridan and John Linson, known for their work on Sons of Anarchy. Launched six years ago, the Montana-based series has seen the Dutton family constantly battling various foes in a bid to protect their land. Fans are eagerly awaiting the next instalment, with Paramount+ announcing that Yellowstone Season 5, Part 2 will premiere on Sunday, November 10.
