Jess Walton is a down-to-earth individual, known for her straightforward nature, warm heart, and infectious laugh.
When she joined The Young and the Restless in 1987, she brought with her an extensive resume that included appearances on iconic shows like Gunsmoke, Marcus Welby, M.D., Starsky and Hutch, and The Six Million Dollar Man.
Taking on the role of Jill Abbott was a significant challenge for the future Emmy winner.
Walton revealed, “Jill had already alienated many people before my time.
Whether portrayed by Brenda Dickson or Deborah Adair, Jill Abbott’s specialty was stirring up trouble while losing friends along the way.” Walton admitted to needing time to adjust to Jill’s controversial reputation, stating,
“I had to protect myself from her lack of self-esteem. She had to attack and pretend, even though few in Genoa City could see beyond her tough exterior.”
Despite Jill’s abrasive demeanor, a few individuals like Devon and David saw through her defenses.
However, things didn’t end well for David, reminding us of the complexities of Jill’s character growth over the years.
