Things are going great guns for Emmerdale’s Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) and John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth). Who knew disposing of a dead body could bring a couple so close?
Weirdly, the lads having a chat about the fact John wouldn’t tell anyone where the body was seemed to cement their relationship. Now they’re stronger than ever, except Chas (Lucy Pargeter) is suspicious of Aaron’s relationship.
It was Chas who pushed Aaron to question John in the first place, and despite him finally revealing where the body was, she remained steadfast in her scepticism, even if outwardly she made out that she was grateful.
John also gave off some mildly sinister vibes when telling Aaron he’d do anything for him, so there is definitely still a big question mark there.
The big spiel about how he’s been compartmentalising getting rid of a body was a bit off – was that all a ruse to mask his ease at being experienced in disposing of dead people? *cough * Nate * cough*
John now knows he’s got his work cut out in winning Chas over, so he plans to do so by organising a surprise engagement party for Chas and Liam (Jonny McPherson). They both walk into the Woolpack and are delighted by John’s surprise. Just what he needed to get Chas kissing his army boots.
Aaron goes all goo goo for his boyfriend for his efforts to win over his mum. When Ella (Paula Lane) unwittingly gatecrashes the do, and distracts Chas, a loved-up John seizes the opportunity to propose to Aaron.
Someone needs to have a word with John about engagement party etiquette. Stealing the limelight is not the done thing, and the proposal doesn’t even stay secret for long as forghorn Mandy overhears and announces it to the pub.

This, understandably, does not have the reaction John is after, as Chas has a face like the thunder John has stolen from her.
She immediately takes Aaron to one side and berates him for moving too fast and with someone she thinks is a bit shady. Unfortunately for her, shady John is listening in.
He’s hurt, and painfully aware that Chas has essentially just rejected him, while Ella rants at him about Chas and Liam.

A row erupts between Ella and Chas and while the whole village focuses on that, all John can think about is Chas’ rejection and how he needs to set her straight.
He’s not even bothered about his own engagement right now. Watch out Chas, you’ll end up wrapped in some tarpaulin before you know it.
Just as John hits a brick wall on how to pull this back, an opportunity lands in his lap – Chas suddenly collapses in the pub and smacks her head. John leaps to the rescue – can he be her knight in shining armour?
