Back Already?! Coronation Street Exit Still Fresh As Star Teases New TV Gig

Craig Tinker’s dramatic death on Coronation Street is still fresh in everyone’s minds but actor Colson Smith isn’t wasting any time. Just weeks after bowing out of Weatherfield, he’s already got a brand-new TV gig lined up, and no, it’s not a return to soapland.

Craig’s Exit Was No Surprise to Colson

While viewers were shocked by Craig’s fatal storyline, Colson revealed that he had known about it since autumn 2024. He shared earlier this year on Instagram that he was told Craig Tinker’s time on the cobbles would come to an end in 2025.

CS/ Colson knew his ending in soap

Looking back at his 14-year run on the soap, Colson said he had loved every second of it and felt incredibly lucky to have grown up in and around Coronation Street. He also said he’d learned just about everything about life from the people who worked on the show.

From Coronation Street to the Quiz Shows

Well, that new chapter is already kicking off. On his podcast On The Sofa, which he co-hosts with Jack P Shepherd and Ben Price, Colson revealed that he’ll soon be appearing on Celebrity Mastermind. He also confirmed that he’s signed up to take part in The Weakest Link, the quiz show hosted by Romesh Ranganathan.

And it doesn’t stop there. Colson mentioned that the team behind Pointless had approached him too. But since that show requires a partner, he explained that he’d need to find a buddy. Jack quickly jumped in during the chat and offered to team up, saying he was good at Pointless.

Why Colson Wanted a Proper Ending?

As for why Craig’s exit was so final, Colson made that decision himself. He explained in previous interviews that if he were to leave, he would want the door to be completely shut. He felt that dying on screen would give him the closure he needed.

CS/ Colson wanted a final exit!

Colson admitted that, in a strange way, being killed off felt like the right thing. He didn’t want the “we might have you back” conversation lingering, especially when he knew a return would likely never happen. For him, that would have felt like unfinished business.

He believed that Craig dying in the line of duty was the most fitting way to wrap up his story. So while Craig’s chapter is closed for good, Colson is already writing his next one. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for all your Coronation Street updates and the latest on Colson’s next big moves!
