Joe Tate’s comeuppance had better be delicious!
Emmerdale Insider Managing Editor Carena Crawford wants big things from Joe Tate’s comeuppance
He’s been plotting and dodging bullets since he arrived back in Emmerdale. The soap Gods rarely let such deeds go unpunished. So now it’s finally time for Joe Tate to be brought to justice – quite how we don’t know.
Joe Tate’s comeuppance promised
It was something we were promised by Emmerdale some months ago when Kidney Research UK criticised the soap for its “reckless and irresponsible” portrayal of kidney disease.
The soap responded by saying: “Emmerdale covers a wide ranging scope of subjects in its storytelling. From births to deaths and everything in between, the nightly stories entertain, inform and raise awareness.
“We regularly work with organisations, help groups and charities for the portrayal of many of these subjects. But sometimes our characters go rogue acting out of desperation or whilst under pressure.
They added: “Joe Tate’s desperate actions are not being held up as an example and as with any soap villain he will ultimately get his comeuppance.”
What needs to happen to Joe in Emmerdale
And now here it is. A glamorous party at Home Farm ends in trouble after Joe Tate spends the week gathering even more enemies.
But here’s the thing: this needs to be good. The pay off for months of wondering what Joe Tate is up to and the complete confusion over lots of aspects of this storyline mean Emmerdale needs to go big.
Usually I roll my eyes a bit when a villain is killed off rather than brought to justice properly. But in cases like this, where the storyline has got a little bit wild and far-fetched, it needs a wild and far-fetched ending.
Given Joe Tate valued his life above all others, perhaps a fitting punishment is to have that life taken away. But given his potential to bring explosive storylines I’m not sure I want him to be killed off (nor do I want to miss seeing that handsome face!)
What would be better (in my opinion) is for him to be taught a lesson, but then redeemed. To build the Tate family back up. Bring Jean Tate back, who he grew up with and must have a strong bond – and make Joe a better person from it.
We’ll have to wait and see how Emmerdale handles this, but I just hope it’s juicy.
