EASTENDERS fans think they have figured out the moment Lacey Turner ‘saved’ James Bye during the live episode after the actor hinted he had forgot his lines.

Thursday’s live episode saw James’ character Martin Fowler die after he was crushed by a steel beam.

James and co-star Lacey – who played Martin’s true love Stacey Slater – featured the most during the 30 minute live episode, and had a lot of lines to remember between them.

In a video shared to his Instagram page following his alter-ego’s sad death, James thanked EastEnders fans for their messages, before paying tribute to the show and his co-stars on and off camera.

At one point he turned his attention to Lacey, 36, who delivered a powerhouse performance despite only giving birth to her third child five weeks earlier.

James, 41, said: “I have to thank the one person who without her, I wouldn’t have been able to get through that.

“We laughed, we cried, all the way from the read through that we did a few weeks ago up until that live episode.

“To be in it and to be part of it was amazing, she saved my skin on one occasion, I’m sure she’ll tell you and so Lacey Turner, she knows how much I love her.”

Following his comments, EastEnders fans quickly dived back into the episode to see what moment he was possibly referring to, and they think they have found it.

The scene in question saw Martin breathing into a mask to try and deal with the pain of the beam crushing him, while Stacey sat alongside him.

Removing the mask, he took a pause, while Stacey did a little chuckle, and then he placed the mask back on for a few more breaths.

Stacey then said: “Going to make me angry on our wedding day?”

Martin then replied: “I think I’m going to have to ain’t I?”

Writing alongside the clip shared on X, one fan wrote: “With james bye saying that lacey “saved his skin on one occasion” i feel like this was the moment.

“It might’ve happened with the SLIGHTLY exaggerated pause before lacey steps in, but bravo to both of them for carrying on so flawlessly.”

Another replied: “I did think the pause went on a big long when i was watching but it was so seamlessly handled I just was like “guess it was planned”.”

A third added: “I noticed this at the time! Fair play to them for covering it so well.”
