Fans spot strange ‘clue’ that suggests ‘serial killer’ John is about to strike again – and Ella is his target

Emmerdale viewers have spent months convinced that John Sugden is a serial killer, and in last night’s episode (March 18), there may have been a hidden clue.

Ever since John arrived in the village, something has been off with him. And while we have no definitive proof yet, it is looking likely that he is the next serial killer in the village.

John has been desperate for Chas to approve of him, and decided to throw her and Liam a surprise engagement party. Which should have been a nice evening – until he and Aaron got engaged too and ruined Chas’ mood. Then to top it all off, Ella and Chas had yet another argument. But it was something in the background that made viewers convinced the show was foreshadowing serial killer John.

Is John Sugden Emmerdale’s next serial killer?

While all the commotion was going on in the pub. From Chas getting annoyed that Aaron and John got engaged, to Ella ruining the party, fans noticed the song that was playing in the background.

Right whenever John was trying to get Chas’ approval, and she was telling Aaron that she thought it was too soon, the song Murder On The Dancefloor could be heard playing from the speakers. And it didn’t go unnoticed by fans.

Taking to X, one wrote: “Murder on the Dance Floor is playing… Did John pick that?”

Another penned: “Murder on the Dance Floor playing in the background. Maybe John will murder them all.”

While it could be passed away as a mere coincidence, it is Soap Land. And everything is chosen very thoughtfully and carefully. So, if the song is anything to go by – another murder may be around the corner.

Who is his next target?

While John has been acting increasingly possessive over getting Chas to like him, would he go as far as to kill her? Perhaps if he did then he could play the supportive fiance to Aaron. All while being the real reason he was grieving.

But another character that fans think is a possible next target for serial killer John is Ella. And as we know Paula Lane is leaving the soap soon, could Ella’s living days be numbered?

One viewer penned on X: “What if John kills Ella…”

What would his motive be for murdering Ella? Well getting rid of an obstacle to Chas’ happiness would immediately win him brownie points. Obviously nobody would know he was the one to do it (until the truth eventually comes out). But if he were going to do anything to make Chas happier, getting rid of Ella may be his next move.

Why Emmerdale need to expose John Sugden as a serial killer soon – OPINION

Ever since John Sugden arrived in Emmerdale, something about his character has seemed off and fans are convinced he is a murderer. And when we heard about his past with Aidan Moore things began to look even more suspicious.

While on the outside, John seems like a friendly enough guy, who wants to get to know his family and live a quiet life in the village. But when you start to look deeper, at the secrets and his unknown past – it seems a lot more sinister.

But if Emmerdale don’t reveal it soon, then everything that’s happening between him and Aaron just seems rushed. And if he isn’t a serial killer, then John’s character just becomes boring.

Why Emmerdale need to expose John Sugden as a muderer

When Nate’s body was revealed to be floating in the lake, and the hooded figure watched as the police left the scene, that was the perfect time to reveal who it was.

Instead of having who the killer is as a mystery, it could instead by why he did it that remains unknown for a while. It immediately would have moved the storyline on even further. Instead we’re exactly where we always have been. Thinking something is going on with John but have no way to prove it.

Whether he is really John Sugden, or if he killed the real John is also in the air. Basically anything John says is hard to believe. And it will be that way until we know for certain if he is a killer or not. We can’t trust him. Which means we can’t trust his relationship with Aaron.

Aaron and John’s relationship is forced

It seems like Emmerdale are trying to recreate what Aaron had with Robert. From their first meeting to John being a literal Sugden, it’s like everything is forced.

There also hasn’t been much development between them as a couple. And so their sudden engagement felt very abrupt and thrown onto us.

The only explanation that would make it worthwhile is that John is a serial killer. Not only does it provide some exciting scenes ahead, but it also gives Danny Miller another huge storyline to tackle as Aaron. Which is what he deserves.

But if John isn’t the next murderer roaming the village, then Emmerdale need to do something big to get us believing in him and Aaron’s relationship.

Don’t keep us waiting any longer Emmerdale – let us know once and for all if we should trust him!
