Harvey Monroe (Ross Boatman) has a turbulent time in EastEnders next week, as his affair with Kathy Cotton (Gillian Taylforth) is exposed.

As viewers of the BBC One soap saw this week, Harvey was planning a caravan holiday for them both – but partner Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) wrongly assumed that the trip was for all of her family.

He agrees to go along with the idea, with no other way to cover for his original intentions.

Things get off to a shaky start when Jean flatly refuses to go without daughter Stacey (Lacey Turner), who is still locking herself away, grieving for ex-husband Martin Fowler.

Her decision not to go sparks friction with troubled Lily (Lillia Turner), who has also struggled immensely in the wake of her father figure’s death.

Determined to get mother and daughter to make amends, Harvey convinces Stacey to join the trip. However, his actions fall on flat ears. Lily digs her heels in, making it clear she doesn’t want her mum there, leaving Harvey at breaking point.

At a loose end with the family’s woes, he storms off to the café, hoping for a comforting word from Kathy. To his surprise, he’s met with a chilly reception and she brushes him off.

Meanwhile, Stacey and Lily manage to clear the air, and with Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) dropping the bombshell that the campervan is no longer available, the Slaters rally together to transform their house into a makeshift campsite.

Still wrestling with guilt, Harvey heads out to the Square, where he tells Kathy that she’s the one he wants to be with.

In a shocking twist, back at home, he’s blindsided when Jean gets down on one knee and pops the question!

Harvey is left stunned – and Jean, noticing his silence, runs to the café in tears and opens up to a guilt-ridden Kath’.

He stays tight-lipped when Alfie quizzes him over the matter, and later resolves to tell Jean the truth. But once again, the moment spirals when Jean interprets Harvey’s attempt to explain as a resounding “yes” to her proposal.

How will he get out of this one? Enter scheming Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins)!

Harvey puts on a brave face as the Slaters kick off their celebrations. But as the party starts, he sneaks off to Kathy’s – and they share a kiss at her back gate.

Unbeknownst to them, Cindy is lurking in the shadows and records the moment on her phone.

As the week goes on, Kathy and son Ian (Adam Woodyatt) are preparing to wet their new grandson Jimmy’s head at The Queen Vic.

Little do they realise, trouble is brewing. Cindy makes her presence known, and she’s not there to play nice.

Feeling sidelined and rejected by son Peter (Thomas Law) following Jimmy’s birth, Cindy lashes out in the most dramatic way possible.

As the Slaters prepare to announce Harvey and Jean’s engagement following George and Elaine Knight’s (Colin Salmon and Harriet Thorpe) encouragement, Cindy plays the incriminating footage for all to see – Harvey kissing Kathy.

The residents are left stunned, and a heartbroken Jean demands answers as she reels from the bombshell.

How will Jean cope now she knows the truth?
