Emmerdale star Lawrence Robb thinks that John Sugden would “absolutely” go “all the way” with Mackenzie, leaving his life in “jeopardy”.
Lawrence Robb joined the ITV soap in October 2020 to take on the role of Mackenzie Boyd. He was introduced after kissing Charity when his car broke down outside the village.
Now married to Charity, Mack has consistently expressed his concerns over John Sugden since he arrived in the village last year, and he’s already confronted the secret villain.
Mackenzie learned that John had been lying to Aaron about having a secret fiancé – Aidan Moore – who John told everyone was dead. Instead, he’s currently in a coma in the hospital.
But as John made his way over to Aaron in the hopes to tell him about Aidan himself. but Mack stopped him and told him to get in his van and never come back.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News and other press, Lawrence shared: “Mackenzie has never really seen eye to eye with John ever. Mackenzie and Aaron were very close, right at the start Mackenzie parks John’s van in a lake, he’s never really seen eye to eye with him.
“He’s proven right from finding out that John has been leading a secret life with a fiancé that is in a coma that he hasn’t told anybody about.”
Since then, John’s anger became tricky to conceal as he attempted to hit Mack round the back of his head. Unfortunately for the ex-Army medic, he accidentally hit Liam instead.

With John and Aaron’s stag do on the horizon, the boys decide to go paintballing in the woods with their wedding party.
John secretly enjoys the attention for his upcoming heroism award, but prioritises Aaron who has a mental health crisis resulting in John missing the event. Kindly Vic and Tracy hold a celebration in honour of John’s heroism in the Woolpack to make up for the fact he missed the real award ceremony. But Mackenzie is annoyed to have missed out and jealous of John and Aaron’s relationship.
As Mack begins to plot, Matty is amused to see his rivalry. As the stags gather for the stag do, everyone is in high-spirits ahead of the paintballing, Mack’s left uneasy by a chilling warning from John. As battle commences in the woods, Mack’s determined to do his best to thwart John.
Lawrence teased: “After the stag do after all the paintballing, Mackenzie’s had a few to drink and he pretty much says to John, ‘I see through you and no one else does but when they do it’s all going to come tumbling down for you’. John is left stewing on that.”
The actor added that Mackenzie doesn’t know “how big a threat” John is at the moment, and thinks he’d tread more carefully if he knew.
When asked if John could hurt Mackenzie, Lawrence replied: “The thing is with John, he obviously killed Nate but he didn’t do it intentionally, could he go all the way with Mackenzie? I absolutely do think so.
“If John were to fall into that spiral of being a serial killer then Mackenzie would be right at the top of that list, Mackenzie’s life is in jeopardy.”
