Coronation Street fans have ‘rumbled’ the true identity of the Dee-Dee Bailey’s midwife – and it’s not looking good.
As viewers will recall, Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown) gave birth to her baby on the ITV soap this week. Dee-Dee shares the child with evil Joel Deering (Calum Lill) who was killed off last year by Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton).
In Monday’s episode (March 30), Dee-Dee was urged to get checked at the maternity unit after suffering serious pains. However, while there she wasn’t taken seriously – despite her blood pressure being high – as the staff were rushed off their feet.
Sent home to rest, Dee-Dee enlisted the help of friend Alya Nazir (Sair Khan), who was adamant that the nurses shouldn’t have sent her home. Suddenly though, Dee-Dee’s waters broke and she was rushed to hospital with her family.

At the maternity unit, Dee-Dee was left without a bed – despite being in agony. Her father Ed (Trevor Michael Georges) attempted to get staff to help – only for a white midwife to make a patronising and micro-aggressive comment that “women like you [Dee-Dee] you are built for this”.
Ed was livid at the remark and managed to find a black midwife who quickly helped out. A doctor arrived and told Dee-Dee she had pre-eclampsia and had to give birth immediately.
After giving birth, all seemed well with the baby girl, however, Dee-Dee complained that she still felt very unwell – something that was dismissed by a white nurse.
The same staff member then attempted to persuade Dee-Dee to have skin-to-skin contact with her baby. But when Dee-Dee insisted she didn’t want to, the nurse called her aggressive.
However, when the rest of the Bailey family arrived to see Dee-Dee, things took a dramatic turn when she fell unconscious. It was then revealed that she was bleeding heavily – something she had already told the staff about.
Rushed in for an operation, Dee-Dee had suffered a haemorrhage after her symptoms were consistently ignored. Meanwhile, her loved ones waited in fear as she underwent surgery.
The shocking scenes are part of a new racial injustice storyline for Dee-Dee. However, fans are now certain that they ‘know’ the true identity of the rude midwife – and she is linked to a former cobbles villain.
Sharing their thoughts online, fans reckon she could have been hired by Joel’s father, Gus (Chris Garner) similar to what he did when Lauren was in court. Another fan theory suggests the midwife could be a secret part of the vile extremist group that included Lauren’s father Reece (Scott Anson).
“That awful midwife needs sacking!! She said she was aggressive when she wasn’t and when she complained. She felt unwell dismissed her and said it was just being a 1st time mum! She needs to go that’s not lack of staffing but lack of knowledge and empathy!!!” fumed one person on the page.
