Emmerdale’s Mark Charnock, who plays Marlon Dingle, has recently shared his admiration for co-star Amelia Flanagan’s portrayal of on-screen daughter April.
In recent months viewers have been gripped by April’s storyline, which saw her vanish and endure several ordeals upon her return to the village, reports Leeds Live.
Mark highlighted Amelia’s standout performance in a special episode centred around April, expressing his thoughts he said: “I knew it was going to be good, because I’d seen the script, but it surpassed my expectations in a sense that he was really cinematic.”
He continued: “It was like watching a 27-minute film that Amelia starred in and elevated with her performance of devastation. She went to new depths of the character – it was revelatory to me. Also, just the way the cameras were used. Slightly different camera, so it looked different.”
Mark also reflected on the longevity of an actor’s career in the soap, saying: “If you are lucky, you are in the show for a long time and, I think I speak for a lot of people, you never take it for granted. I think it is a real pleasure that you can get lost in an episode that you suddenly realise half-way through ‘oh my god, I’m a complete viewer’. That is the biggest tribute I can give to her in that episode.”

Episodes due to air next week will take a shocking downward spiral for April and Marlon’s relationship as she hears the truth about her dad’s recent betrayals and discovers the lengths he has taken to keep her friend Dylan out of her life.
Earlier this year when Dylan started hanging around the village and wanted a place to stay, Marlon framed him over the theft of ketamine from the vets surgery. Dylan selflessly kept quiet about Marlon’s mistake when he found out what had happened. Marlon agreed to pay for Dylan to go to rehab, where he could tackle his drug problems once and for all.
Next week Marlon’s guilty conscience gets the better of him as he finally tells April the truth about the ketamine, but April didn’t take it well and took drastic action stealing a vial of ketamine from the vets surgery herself. Marlon later finds her unconscious with the empty drugs vial beside her.
After the overdose scare Marlon takes extreme measures to look out for his daughter by tracking her every move by planting a device in her coat. But, his wife Rhona finds out and urges him to give April some freedom before he pushes her away forever.
