Steph Miligan has caused fans to become slightly frustrated with her whole ‘where’s my grandad’ routine in Emmerdale – but, she’s not selfish.
Despite fans declaring that’s it’s all about ‘me, me, me’ as far as Steph’s concerned, can we really blame her? Let’s remember that Steph’s a victim of Anthony too…

Steph found out the truth about Anthony in Emmerdale
Fans have become annoyed with Steph’s one-track mind as she embarked on the quest to find out what happened to her ‘grandad.’
Every other sentence she says has been ‘grandad’ related. Actually, no, correction, every sentence.
And, fans have grown tired of her making everything about her and her ‘grandad,’ tearing strips into Caleb and Ruby.
With Caleb and Ruby desperate to protect Steph, she wasn’t that grateful about being kept in the dark.
And last night (Thursday, March 13), Ruby finally crumbled under the pressure and told Steph anything. Steph had an inkling that they were keeping secrets. But, she wasn’t expecting the truth to be quite like this…
Steph then went into a state of shock as Ruby admitted that she killed Anthony. And, that he was actually Steph’s dad.

OPINION: Steph is a misunderstood victim
Whilst some fans are complaining that Steph is ‘selfish,’ we think they’ve got Steph completely wrong. She’s actually a misunderstood victim, who only mentions her ‘grandad’ so much because he was her one idea of family.
Growing up in a boarding school and distanced from Ruby and Caleb, Steph always felt like she wasn’t good enough for her parents. Her ‘grandad’ gave her an idea of family and belonging, with Steph introducing him back into Ruby and Caleb’s lives in a bid to rebuild that stable family she’d always dreamt of.
Anthony manipulated Steph into loving him by putting on the ‘innocent, old man’ act. And, he also kept the huge secret of his abuse to Ruby a secret from Steph… so she had no idea who he really was…
As well as being Anthony’s victim, we have to remember that as far as Steph was concerned, her parents – Ruby and Caleb – were the ‘bad guys’ in the situation, having shunned the person she loved away without any explanation.
Up until Steph was finally filled in on the situation, she felt personally attacked by Ruby and Caleb’s secrecy. And now, once Steph has found out the truth, it’s clear that she’s no longer making it all about herself. Steph clearly feels awful for her mum and what she had to go through.
Can we really blame Steph for how she’s been acting when all she had to go on were the rose-tinted glasses handed to her by her parents desperate to protect her? She deserves our sympathy too.
