Newman reveals how Matt Casey and Sylvie Brett’s proposal cliffhanger will be resolved.

Amid a jam-packed Chicago Fire season 11 finale, the One Chicago show’s biggest surprise was arguably Casey’s marriage proposal to Sylvie. Since then, the series has been keeping the viewers waiting for what comes next after Casey got down on one knee, which was further extended by the dual writers and actors strikes that delayed Chicago Fire season 12. Per TV Line, Newman revealed that Chicago Fire season 12 won’t pick up where its predecessor left off. Instead, Sylvie’s answer to Casey’s question will be revealed later. Read her full quote below: Brett & Casey’s Chicago Fire Season 12 Cliffhanger Resolution Is Disappointing Narratively, Casey has already moved to Portland, Oregon to take care of his late friends’ kids, which forced him and Sylvie to do a long-distance set-up and eventually break up.

While his trips to Chicago have been mostly for work since then, Casey was still able to have brief conversations with Sylvie. He finally made a move to rekindle their romance by expressing his intent to marry her. The way Newman describes the resolution to this plot, it’s likely that her answer won’t be seen on-screen. At the very least, Kara Killmer’s confirmed departure from One Chicago hints that Sylvie will accept Casey’s proposal. Getting married and moving to Oregon with her boyfriend is the best way to write the character out of Chicago Fire season 12. Otherwise, it would be disappointing for Matt to return without any kind of payoff.

There’s still a possibility that Sylvie’s arc ends in tragedy — something that has happened multiple times in One Chicago. Aside from Sylvie and Casey’s proposal, Chicago Fire season 12 has a lot of other big plot lines to tackle. After his extended absence, Taylor Kinney is coming back as Kelly Severide. Meanwhile, just like Sylvie, Blake Gallo’s days at Firehouse 51 are numbered. Despite these, however, it’s safe to say that the pay-off to the couple’s long-burning romance is its most awaited narrative.
