EastEnders Martin Fowler death aftermath revealed in emotional spoilers

As the paramedics talked to one side, Stacey went over and demanded answers, they explained Martin could suffer from Crush syndrome, a life-threatening condition that occurs when skeletal muscle is crushed, causing major shock, kidney failure and cardiac arrest. Martin sadly passed away after the beam was pulled off of him, as the rest of the Square heard blood-curdling screams, confirming his tragic death.

Outside the Vic, Ruby Allen (Louisa Lytton) broke down in tears and fell to the floor after realising what had happened. The episode then came to a tragic end, but now spoilers for next week reveal ‘the future’ for the Square.

EastEnders iconic character Martin Fowler was killed off

Next week, the shocked residents of Albert Square try to process the tragic events, but struggle with the enormity of what has happened. As Walford attempts to adjust to its new normal following recent events, emotions remain high as the community pulls together to support one another.

The grieving residents will all congregate at Harry’s Barn on Turpin Road, but the drama isn’t over there as the sombre occasion proves as a catalyst for much more. Elsewhere, it’s the end of the road for Grant Mitchell, (Ross Kemp) who decides it’s time to leave Walford once again.

Martin Fowler was the first baby born in the soap in 1985, and has has been a pinnacle part of the Square as he worked on the fruit stall on the market – just like his dad did. Speaking on Martin’s departure, actor James Bye, who had played the character for a decade said: “Saying goodbye is not easy, but after 10 years at EastEnders and on the night of the shows epic 40th anniversary – the time felt right.

“It’s an honour to leave on a story of this magnitude. A huge thank you to all the fans of the show – EastEnders wouldn’t be what it is without you – and to the BBC and EastEnders team for trusting me with this role for so many years. This fruit and veg man will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s time to look forward, and I’m incredibly excited for what the future holds. RIP Martin Fowler.”
