With Fire Country season 3 premiering next Friday, October 18, fans are excited to get back into a TV

drama that spotlights the world of first responding firefighters. But what happens when we step away

from our screens and think about how to protect ourselves from fires at home — or elsewhere? Well, the show is getting in on the conversation of fire safety, and Max Thieriot is spearheading an initiative that’s near and dear to the cast and crew’s hearts.

National Fire Prevention Week is running from October 6 through October 12, aiming to educate everyone on the importance of fire safety and how to be prepared in case one starts at home or outdoors in forests and other landscapes full of trees and ember. As a way to partake in the initiative, Fire Country and Max teamed up with the Wildland Firefighter Foundation to help spread awareness around these important conversations. Max also worked with the organization to create a PSA, sharing tips on how to keep our communities safe while examining how the lives of firefighters are impacted in more ways than just running toward life-threatening emergencies.

“A really important thing for us is to not only tell these stories and show that firefighters are heroes for what they do,” Max exclusively tells Good Housekeeping about the initiative. “But it’s also important to shed light on the other side of that and the impact of what the job actually entails. First responders are heroes and risk their lives every day for us, and that comes at a cost that isn’t always realized in storytelling. I think it’s important that we tell those stories as well.”

So, how is Fire Country helping the Wildland Firefighter Foundation spread the word around National Fire Prevention Week? Along with creating a national PSA, the show also released a reusable water bottle for fans to purchase, with 100% of the proceeds going to the organization.

While Max hopes for the partnership to be a long-term project, he’s proud to support a cause that doesn’t just affect those in need of saving from fires. It also helps the families of the first responders, who may need support amid their loved ones entering potentially dangerous situations.“Some of these firefighters may be out there for weeks at a time, running on very little sleep to fight wildfires,” he adds. “That takes a toll, right? And by bringing awareness to the families of firefighters who are taken in the line of duty or are injured on the job… we’re really focused and keen on bringing awareness to supporting these people as best we can. I can’t thank this community and these people enough for their sacrifice, and we owe it to them.”While Max mentioned some immediate ideas for people to remember for fire safety (like blowing out candles when you’re done using them or cutting tall dry grass off the front lawns of your home to prevent the spread of wildfires), there are still plenty of ways for folks to be mindful about trying to prevent a disaster from happening.
