Family feud reignites for David and Nick after shock Coronation Street discovery

Coronation Street’s David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) and Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) may be brothers, but they have a troubled history between them. In 2012 this even erupted into open warfare that resulted in Nick ending up in a coma for weeks.

Although these days they’re both more mature and generally get on, there’s always an undercurrent of distrust and in episodes to be aired soon, Nick once again has cause to be very upset with his brother.

The cause is their children, Nick’s son Sam (Jude Riordan) and David’s daughter Lily (Brooke Malonie). And of course Lily is a reminder of the biggest rift between the two brothers when, for a while, there was a possibility that either Nick or David could be Lily’s father.

In 2012, David was married to Kylie Platt (Paula Lane) and he was keen for them to have a baby together, who would be a sibling for Kylie’s son Max. She wasn’t keen and they argued bitterly, and in the aftermath of this Kylie slept with Nick on Christmas night.

Both Nick and Kylie regretted this, but soon afterwards Kylie found out she was pregnant.

Knowing that his brother had slept with his wife triggered David to mount a hate campaign against Nick which culminated in a showdown – during which the car they were in was hit by a truck and Nick ended up in a coma for weeks.

A DNA test later revealed that Kylie’s baby, Lily, was David’s.

In the present day, Nick is worried about his son Sam. There’s a distressing incident at the school when killer Mick Michaelis (Joe Layton) escapes from jail and turns up at the school demanding to see his daughter Joanie (Savanna Pennington). It’s obviously a scary experience for the children, and Nick is worried that Sam might be upset but he refuses to talk about it.

Then Hope Stape (Isabella Flanagan) tells Nick that Lily hid in a classroom, but refused to let Sam in. He was left in the corridor on his own, scared about what was happening.

This is obviously upsetting for Nick to hear, and he decides to have some frank words with David about his daughter’s behaviour. Will the brothers have an entirely reasonable discussion? Or will it descend into an angry showdown?

And how will Sam cope in the aftermath of what happened?
