Coronation Street fans have been hailing the show’s ‘best decision ever’ as one of the stars responded to her character’s big new role.

It was previously revealed that Glenda Shuttleworth would be the latest in a long line of powerful women to be running the Rovers Return ship in the ITV soap.

The character, played by Jodie Prenger, has been behind the bar since her arrival in Weatherfield in 2022, when she made her first appearance as the sister of established character, undertaker George Shuttleworth.

But, with Jenny Connor being forced out from behind the bar, Glenda has been asked to step-up until actual owner Carla Connor can find new people to take over the beloved boozer.

As fans already know, Jenny had planned to buy back the Rovers from Carla, but was recently left penniless after Daisy Midgeley conducted one last scheme before leaving Weatherfield behind.

It was last month that Carla decided action finally needed to be taken and that the Rovers Return needs to be sold for her to recoup her missing cash, which she now owes having borrowed money for her brother, Rob Donnovan’s, kidney transplant.

Carla, whose stolen money Jenny and Daisy used to save the pub last year, broke the news to Jenny that she needs to pay Lisa Swain back and that she’s decided to sell the pub, leaving Jenny shocked. She eventually shared Carla’s demand with Daisy, who found out that Jenny plans to buy the pub back for herself with the money Daisy’s dad invested for her years ago, which had come to fruition.

But rather than confronting Jenny, Daisy signalled her mother Christina Boyd’s return and the pair set about scamming Jenny by catfishing her under the guise of ‘Dom’.

But when the man himself appeared, Daisy was thrown. She was also unaware that Christina plans to split the money with ‘Dom’, as she was actually seeing Jenny’s dodgy new fake suitor.

realising that her mum was going to double-cross her and set about her own plan to make sure that didn’t happen and it was soon revealed what Christina was up to and she was carted off to the police station.

However, with her mum taking the rap, Daisy hurried her departure from Weatherfield. A heartbroken Jenny said her goodbyes before Christina returned and as they argued it out, the penny dropped for them both and it became clear Daisy had run off with the money Jenny thought she was investing in ‘Dom’.

Jenny was dealt one last blow as Daisy left her nothing, just a goodbye note with a short apology. Then, in one last twist, it was revealed that it wasn’t Brighton she was heading for as she checked her flights from Manchester to Bali.

It was then at the end of last week that Jenny confirmed that the deeds to the pub have been officially signed over to Carla. While Jenny is still in charge for the time being, she’s very aware her time behind the bar is coming to an end so she tried to find an alternative job and landed one with Brian Packham at The Kabin.

In the meantime, Carla has made Glenda the pub’s new manager and during Monday’s (May 12) trip to the cobbles, Jenny seemingly took delight in Glenda having the responsibility, dismissing her suggestion she’ll one day find herself back in charge of the iconic venue.

However, Corrie fans were more than thrilled to see Glenda spring into action, subjecting the Rovers visitors to a bit of a performance as she took to the mic, seemingly to Carla’s disdain.

Sharing a clip of Carla and Glenda in the Rovers, actress Jodie Prenger wrote on her Instagram Story: “Poor Carla, does she know what she’s let herself in for [crying laughing emoji] @coronationstreet.”

Meanwhile, @KatieJukesy said: “Making Glenda the manager is the best decision ever. It needs to stay this way. #Corrie.” @StephB100 shared: “Glenda is amazing. Keep her in The Rovers. One of the best things to happen to #Corrie.”

@StVitusDance posted: “Please make Glenda landlady of Rovers #Corrie @itvcorrie. @sammi_heartbeat joked: “Carla deffo regretted her choice to make Glenda the manager the minute she walked into that pub #corrie.” @mishybabez_ commented: “Glenda being made pub manager is the best thing ever! She brings so much joy to the pub #Corrie.”

@KazP19 added: “Glenda is one of those rare characters who epitomised #corrie from the second she first appeared. Absolutely bloody brilliant & (as we already knew) what a singing voice! Jodie Prenger – take a bow.”
