EASTENDERS 2025 SHOCKS: DEADLY RETURNS, TRAGIC EXITS & DARK SECRETS UNLEASHED!

2025 is proving to be one of the most turbulent years in EastEnders history, delivering explosive twists, jaw-dropping returns, and deeply emotional exits that have left fans reeling. As Walford reels from the fallout of the Queen Vic explosion, the emotional toll continues to grow, especially with the tragic death of long-time resident Martin Fowler. His sudden demise in Stacey’s arms has triggered a domino effect of personal and familial upheaval, leading to a temporary exit for Stacey herself as she seeks solace at Lynn Slater’s home. She takes her children Arthur and Hope with her, while daughter Lily stays behind with her biological father, Ryan Malloy, in Wakefield.

The anniversary episodes brought a mix of nostalgia and shock, as iconic characters returned, including Ross Kemp as Grant Mitchell and an emotional cameo by Anita Dobson reprising her legendary role as Angie Watts. But the bombshells didn’t stop there—more returns and departures are on the horizon.

Max Branning’s return is highly anticipated. After four years in New Zealand with his daughter Lauren and grandson Louie, he’s heading back to Walford. His dramatic past with Linda Carter—who is now raising their secret daughter, Annie—will undoubtedly explode when they reunite. With old emotions still simmering and unresolved drama looming, Max’s return is expected to cause serious ripples across the Square.

Another major return comes in the form of Ben Mitchell, with Max Bowden reprising his role after a year-long absence. Last seen being extradited to the United States for fraud, Ben shared an emotional farewell with husband Callum Highway. Now back filming in Albert Square, his return is certain to reopen painful wounds and stir up unresolved tension in his marriage and family.

Meanwhile, some residents have quietly left or are on temporary leave. Jack Branning is away visiting his injured sister Susie. Though he offered daughter Amy the chance to join him, she refused, choosing instead to stay in Walford. His return date remains unconfirmed, but his absence is deeply felt.

Sharon Watts, still grappling with the fallout of her affair with Grant Mitchell being exposed to Phil, has left Walford for a while. She’s staying with Jada Lennox—ex-partner of Sharon’s late son, Denny—and their daughter Alyssa, while staying with Michelle Fowler. Sharon’s future remains uncertain, and her emotional state has left her completely rattled.

More returns are teased by Kate Oates, the head of continuing drama at the BBC. While she remains tight-lipped, her hints suggest that fans should brace themselves for more classic characters to step back into the spotlight, promising major storylines.

On the departure front, Stacey Slater (played by Lacey Turner) is set to step back later this year after the birth of her third child in real life. Though she returned for a powerful live episode to film Martin’s death, her time in Walford is winding down for now, with the possibility of a future comeback.

Felix Baker, beloved for portraying EastEnders’ first regular drag queen TerriAmisu, will also be exiting later this year. His character, introduced alongside his brother Finley and their father Avery, made a significant cultural impact since 2022. His departure aligns with the arrival of a new executive producer, Ben Wad, signaling potential shifts in the show’s creative direction.

Bernie Taylor, daughter of Karen Taylor, is another major character preparing to exit. Following the traumatic events surrounding her brother Keanu’s murder—committed by Linda Carter and hidden by the now-infamous “Six”—Bernie’s silence has weighed heavily. Though she chose not to expose the killers, the burden has clearly taken a toll, and her exit marks the end of a dramatic chapter for the Taylor family.

Lastly, the surprise return of Nigel Bates after 26 years touched longtime viewers. Supporting Phil Mitchell through his mental health crisis while also battling his own early-onset dementia, Nigel’s reappearance brought depth and nostalgia. However, his presence is only temporary, with no confirmed end date.

With returns, losses, and mysteries mounting, Walford is headed for a year filled with emotional revelations, unresolved trauma, and long-awaited confrontations.
