Coronation Street CANCELLED as it’s pulled from screens today in major schedule shake-up

Soap fans have been hit by several changes this year already and Weatherfield lovers are about to be disappointed again.

The popular drama won’t be airing in it’s usual slot today (Friday) and will instead be booted out by the UEFA Women’s Nations League game, England vs Belgium.

Coronation Street usually airs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for one hour from 8pm.

Fans have been compensated however, and were treated to an hour long episode on Thursday night to make up for the missing instalment.

It isn’t the first time the soaps have been disrupted by schedule shifts.

Soap fans have been hit by several changes this year already and Weatherfield lovers are about to be disappointed again

On February 28, Coronation Street was moved again because of a FA Cup game between Aston Villa and Cardiff City.

Instead, the episode was shown on the Thursday to make up for the missing trip to the cobbles.

And on February 7, the soap was moved from the Friday night slot to make room for a Manchester United vs Leicester City game as part of the FA Cup.

The match kicked off at 7:30pm after Emmerdale wrapped up and the schedule change meant that fans tuned in on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday instead.

It comes after ITV confirmed earlier this year how popular soaps Coronation Street and Emmerdale will move to a new scheduling pattern amid ongoing budget cuts.

Both usually air six episodes a week but as of January 2026, Emmerdale is set to air at 8pm, followed by Coronation Street at 8:30pm – in what has been dubbed a ‘soap power hour’.

The new set-up has been called ‘streaming-friendly’ by ITV boss Kevin Lygo, despite it resulting in one fewer episode of each soap every week.

Coronation Street fans face more upset after it was recently revealed star Farrel Hegarty is leaving her role on the ITV soap.

The actress, who portrays Lou Michaelis on the soap, joined the show in February alongside partner Mick (Joe Layton), but she will soon be making her exit.

A source told The Sun: ‘She will be leaving the soap alongside Joe – they were bought on as a couple and will leave as such.

‘Fans were hoping they would be around for a while but there are no plans to keep them on longer than first intended.

A Coronation Street spokesperson also confirmed to the publication: ‘Mick and Lou were brought into the show to cause chaos on the cobbles in the build-up to a major storyline in the summer and they are already making their presence felt.’
