With lives left hanging in the balance, EastEnders goes LIVE for an unmissable offering of the BBC One soap on Thursday (February 20) to mark 40 years on the Square.
The much-loved serial, as viewers know, has pulled out all the stops to make its 40th anniversary unmissable TV – and it’s certainly succeeded on that front!
With heart-racing reveals, a return four decades in the making – in the form of Angie Watts as Anita Dobson reprised her role – and a cataclysmic explosion at the Queen Vic, it really has been non-stop action thus far.
During the latest visit to Walford, Martin Fowler (James Bye) was left screaming at the top of his lungs in agony after a beam collapsed upon him in the ruins of the barrel store, leaving audiences fearing the worst.
Answers on his fate, plus the outcome of the viewer-voted decision Denise Fox (Diane Parish) makes between Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara) and Jack Branning (Scott Maslen), lie ahead in the final outing of the week as EastEnders goes LIVE.
There’s nothing soap fans love more than a live episode and with twists and turns and no doubt tragedy on the cards, I’ll keep you updated with everything as and when it happens on screen.
Thanks for joining us tonight – and all week!
We’ve not finished crying yet but we just wanted to thank you for joining us tonight (and throughout the week) for our live coverage of EastEnders’ 40th anniversary – what a week it’s been!
Stay tuned to Metro for all the spoilers of what’s to come.
EastEnders fans ‘in bits’ over Martin’s demise
EastEnders fans wasted little time in reacting to the tragic demise of Martin Fowler. ‘RIP WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOU’, said Tami, while Aaron added: ‘I just realised I watched Martin Fowler being born and now dying’.
‘RIP Martin, you were immense. I’m in bits’, said Christina and honestly hard relate.
EastEnders Zack star James Farrar pays tribute to James Bye

James Farrar has paid tribute to his regular co-star James Bye in the wake of his exit.
‘Jimmy Bye,’ he wrote on Instagram. ‘What James did better than anyone else on our show was to demand a conversational, real energy whenever you’re in a scene with him. Fly on the wall. His trick was to immediately walk into the scene and stick the kettle on. He’d make us both a tea during the take and I believed everything with him.
What’s more, I always came off set with a smile on my face. His naughty, clever humour had me on the floor at times.
Thank you for the nights out, thank you for the laughter and thank you for giving us one of the best moments in TV tonight.
