Charity and Cain Dingle (Emma Atkins and Jeff Hordley) are set to embark on a mission
to hunt down Belle Dingle and Tom King (Eden Taylor-Draper and James Chase) in Emmerdale,
but things are set to get dark. In upcoming scenes, Charity is left horrified to learn about Tom’s
job interview in Wales and his sudden departure from the village with wife Belle. Anxious, Charity confides in Cain, admitting that Tom reminds her of DI Mark Bails and that she is seriously worried for Belle’s safety. ‘There are very subtle things that are going on but I think the fact that Charity has, over the past 20 years, experienced levels of abuse from certain people she’s been with – most of all Bails – she recognises the signs,’ actress Emma Atkins explained. ‘He’s just an interesting character and she’s got her eye on him. She sees that Belle has suddenly become a shadow of her former self. ‘Her attempts get thwarted when she approaches the girls and they all say, “Due to your recent circumstances and what you’ve been through, maybe you’re overreacting.”
So that’s when she decides to go to Cain. ‘I think the conversation in the pub prior to that is where Charity shows her vulnerability and says, “I recognise these traits, I recognise the signs, and there’s one person who made me feel like this and that’s Bails. I just feel like no matter how much aftershave Tom splashes on, I can feel something evil lurking underneath.” Tom and Belle hugging outside a cottage in Wales in Emmerdale ‘It’s a metaphor but I think that’s when Cain decides maybe she’s got a point, actually. I think he believes her.’ When Cain fails to get in contact with Belle and Charity realises she’s been missing her mental health appointments, they decide to break into their house in a bid to try and track them down.
Some rummaging around soon reveals the address for the rental cottage in Wales, an Charity and Cain waste no time in heading after them. However, when they arrive, they are horrified to find the place trashed and blood on the walls – but no sign of Belle. Will Charity and Cain find her before it’s too late? Speaking about filming with Jeff Hordley again, Emma said: ‘It was brilliant. Working with Jeff again was just magic, because I haven’t worked with him in quite a while and we just seem to have this effortless chemistry when we get together because we know each other, we know our history. ‘Our characters just somehow really work well together. It’s great that we’re not a couple but we’re good in a crisis. We trust each other and I love the fact that Cain has listened to Charity. I just loved it.’
